Those spring rates sound like they will be very nice and comfy!
So they are a providing a linear spring rate that is still compatible with the stock front mounts? Great to see an update on this.

I had Ohlins DFV on my Evo before. Absolutely the most comfortable and best handling set up I have ever had. You feel everything on the road yet it rides smoothly like no other suspension.
I wish I could afford these for the M3. They will undoubtedly be more expensive because of BMW and M tax. |

Prices will likely to release in a couple of months. Quote:
New springs had to developed for the E9x M3(OE spring profile spring), adapter sleeves and EDC emulator. All of the above add to the cost of the kit. Last edited by HP Autosport; 11-02-2012 at 09:22 PM.. |

Interesting spring rate combo - ~345 lbf/in F, ~685 lbf/in R. F rate appears to be very conservative even for a street setup, especially if lowered 20 mm. The Ohlins DFV F spring rate for the R56 Mini Cooper S is 400 lbf/in F!
Also, these F-R rates are very similar to the rates that came with a different e9x M3 high-end setup that most owners on ths forum had issues with, especially when used on the track with a 0.75"+ drop. Please don't read this post the wrong way - the Ohlins DFV dampers are awesome - but these rates seem way too soft for a street, or dual-purpose, setup on the e9x M3. Also, glad to see another great suspension option almost on the market for the M3 |

That will all depend on what this other high-end set-up really is.

weight distribution is 63/37 on a mini, might have something to do with it

The wheel rate of the R56 Mini kit also is similar to the e9x M3 rear wheel rate - I don't know the rear motion ratio of the R56 Mini because it's a coilover rear. Also, the Mini weighs ~800-900 lb fewer than the e9x M3 with a much shorter wheelbase.

I didn't want to list the name of the other damper but it's a DA damper made by a direct race competitor of Ohlins. Having used 380/620, 600/800, 400/600, 400/672, and 500/800 rates on the e92 M3 with Moton, TCK, and JRZ dampers I still strongly believe ~350/~685 is a street-biased setup even on the Ohlins DFV. Just like on the Mini kit if you want to swap rates you have to buy four additional springs...

On the 135/335 kit about 50% of the people upgrade their springs to Swift and the other 50% love the kit out of the box, it may just come down to what the preference of each driver.

Sounds good. Knowing how well the R&T kit performs on my R56 as well as the wide range of rebound damping adjustment, the R&T e9x kit should be awesome on the street and very capable of handling much higher rates for people that want to more frequently track their car

Ohlins R&T is awaiting the release of the EDC module, then two separate kits will be released, one for non-EDC cars(1M included) and one for EDC.
We are looking at a month or two from now. |
