E90 Laguna Seca Blue and Space Gray...I have ISSUES...Who else does?
Hey All,
I now realize how amazing my fiance is in helping me do what we did to protect my <400 mile E90 M3. This is done with less than $14 worth of standard 3M painters tape 2" wide and 3 hours of detailed work. Have a look: 1. Side View - Some tape was falling off due to plastic areas that were not that conducive to adhesion. But we managed to cover all painted parts on the front third of the car, including the underside of the front bumper. 2. Passenger Side View Mirror - To Cover this, some of the tape had slits in them so that they could easily curve around the sections where a straight piece would not bend around. 3. Another Side View but Closer. 4. BMW so precious, i want to cover you - We took one long piece of tape and cut multliple slits into it so i could go around the BMW emblem. 5. Passenger Side Vent - I originally wanted to just quickly put some tape on, but my fiance refused to "slap" it on so we ended up trying to spend time covering only the painted areas. 6. Fat Front View - also note that we covered the A-Pillars including the first 7 inches of the front of the roof as well. 7. Close Up 2/3 View of Front Left of Car - We managed to tuck painters tape around places that were easily accessible hence the "full" coverage. 8. Left Hood Vent - Since this vent is in use, we decided to be detailed and use smaller pieces of tape with slits to go around the hard to cover curve of the vent. Overall, I was happy with what we did. Just wanted to share my OCD-like behavior for those that might actually appreciate it. If anyone wants any tips, i'd be glad to give them some! By the way, this was on for 2 weeks because my car is getting a clear bra on 2/3 of my car are Premier here in Socal. Finally I can drive it with very little worry! |

to protect the car until you got the clear bra? a bit excessive. did you drive around like this? the look is terrible but I understand protecting your ride from road crap. not judging, just my humble opinion...more power to you.

Looks more like Estoril,
but tape job looks pretty good, a lot of that is still going to come off during the drive, not to mention leaving that on in the rain followed by heat = never good. You're going to need a few bottles of goo gone.

Thanks for the compliment. It's off now and Premier is putting on the clear bra which I will pick up this afternoon! Plus here in sunny southern california, it almost never rains, but we took it off on thursday and barely any came off, they were starting to peel but did a good job of protecting the parts I wanted to protect.

You forgot to cover the side skirts of the car. I notice that I get some debris scratching up my paint on the side skirts. Time to buy more tape!

I did this to my 330 when I drove to Vegas right after I bought it. Wasnt nearly as detailed as you, only went 8 inches up the hood. But it made a large difference in the rock chips and cleaning off the bugs. But the multiple looks I got from other people was so classic!
Plus it came off so easily, left no residue either.

I was trying to keep the front end of the car clean so I can get a clear bra installed. . I know that many people think it's lame to do this, but everyone has their way and style and degree of detailedness and cleanliness. This who i am. Just don't hate me for doing something that might be seem stupid. I am just trying to show what is possible for those who are as anal as me when it comes to keep their car pristine prior to getting it clear bra'd. That's all.
