I think that's the lightest configuration possible for a stock M3. For comparison, Edmunds got a 3590 curb weight with the following options:

19-Inch Wheels With Performance Tires, Park Distance Control (Rear Only), HD Radio, iPod and USB Adapter, Premium Package, Technology Package, Cold Weather Package

I think the only things left off were sunroof, which we do have a number for and power sun shade and enhanced premium sound which I'm not aware of numbers for.

My '09 M3 Coupe with carbon fiber roof (no sunroof) and everyother possible option, right down to smartphone integration and iPhone cradle) with a full tank of gas registered 3640 lbs at a truck weigh station (without me in the car). Now the accuracy of the scales are plus or minus 20 lbs, so the car is somewhere between 3620 and 3660 lbs. What it does say is there is not really that much of a difference (less than about 100 lbs) between stripped and loaded (not counting roof). Now if I could lose enough weight to get down to my birth weight of 7 lbs 2oz.....my M3 would be really fast...he he.

And, with all due respect, the purpose of an M3 (or any car) is whatever the owner wishes it to be.
Quite true, don't see the sense in buying a car to strip it when it's my DD, if I want that sort of a car I will buy one that is suited to that purpose!

Look at P cars if weight is an issue.

+1, that was also my gutt feeling (not a specific weight saving but "makes little difference").

When adding lightness costs LESS money, that's a no-brainer to me.

100lbs is kind of a lot IMO. it's kind of like always having another passenger with you.

Yeah, but it's not enough for me to ignore a smokin' deal for a street car if I find a leftover '08 laying around with the right color and options and no sunroof. If I can't find one I'll just order a stripper (and a no-options car, too). What I was worried about was a 200+ pound difference between a no-options car and one with typical options, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Thanks for the data points guys.

+1 even a stripped down GT4 competition E92 M3 with Acrapovic exhaust system and plastic doors still weighs > 1450kgs....

That's about right considering a full tank of gas weighs about 100 lbs., and car weight specs. published numbers are with an empty tank. I seriously doubt every available option adds even close to 100 lbs.

Seriously though, the M3 is NOT a sports car. It is a nothing more than a high performance, sedan/coupe. If you want a sports car, drive a Lotus where weight saving is a religion, options are limited, and creature comforts are laughed at. Even a "stripped" M is just a luxury sedan with a high-performance engine, suspension, and drivetrain.

On a 2-ton car, 100 lbs. is fairly miniscule and barely noticeable. How many of you notice the difference in your car when it is 1/8 vs. full of fuel? In a 1950 lb., Lotus, 100 lbs makes a huge difference. It's all relative.

I obviously love the M3 as I did my RS4, but I am under no delusion that they are sports cars. My Lotus and former C6 Z06 are definitely sports cars, but many buyers of those cars often complain that they are not "luxurious" enough for the money. BMW's M niche is luxury, high-perf. cruiser.

Just FYI mine comes in at 3630 under identical conditions. +/- 10 from where the dump scale puts it. I have most options and DCT but no premium sound, no PDC, no cold weather package.
