I have an 08 M3 (stock except for a performance air filter) and am unsure of the software version although I don't believe that it was ever updated. I am scheduled to replace the plugs (I have 46k on the first set) and check on, and if necessary, update the software at the end of this week.
I had a dyno run today just to get a baseline before any changes and it recorded a peak of 336 on the best run. I don't know anything about the dyno used, but am wondering if this sounds about right for a stock car. |

Updating from 050E should make your M3 feel like a new car. It's quite a stretch.

231E can be applied remotely with HEX flash cable.

I have 080E software, the dealer strongly advised against updating my software when I asked them just a few months ago. They said my 2008 M3 is too old and the update which might take few hours might fry the module. I just got the Evolve remote tool, and I am wondering if it is worth the risk to update the software before the tuning.

Dealers do not have the ability to target specific modules for updates, the entire vehicle is updated (depending on service pack specifications) as a whole. It sounds like they simply did not want to perform the update for you. Evolve has stated in the past on they can provide the update for you, it would be best you contacted them directly since you already own the tool. |

Getting my software updated by the dealer this Saturday. SA told me about two hours for the update and is charging me $188 for it. Not a bad deal, I don't think. My car is a 07/08 build that has not been updated yet.

Does anyone have a dyno sheet of an 08 M3 with the older version that does NOT have any problems like the one did on page 7? A healthy 08 w/E80 software E92 M3? Id like to see a dyno of before and after on a stock 08 that has no problems. My car is getting serviced as we speak and they quoted me $200 for the update. I'm skeptical after reading the entire thread. Thanks.

I just got mine updated today. 3 Hours of doing it. 140 bucks Car feels totally new. The biggest change I noticed was steering feel. It feels heavier and much more planted to the road if that makes sense. Mine is an 08 that was never updated. I definitely gained some horses according to my butt dyno!

If I currently have a aftermarket tune on my M3 and I bring it in to the BMW dealer to get 231E installed on my ECU, will the dealer notice the aftermarket tune on the ECU in the process of overwriting it with 231E? I know I will loss the aftermarket tune in the process, more concerned about losing my warranty.

I need to double check my records, but I don't think i've ever been updated. If any vendor sells a cable and can do this remotely, PM me.

Updating from 080E should see improvements in not only drivability, but a possible power increase as well. Assuming engine has been properly maintained and is in good working order. Yes, or even newer. Quote:
Dealers want to get cars in and out as efficiently as possible. At the same time, keep a potential returning customer happy. 09/11 will likely have 200E or 220E if not updated recently. Those that have never been updated will notice the most drastic changes after updating. |
