Besides, German's know how to drive in the rain, it's just that he happened to be on slicks, which made it a lot more difficult.

This wasn't a track day, it was a race... And, driving in the rain is considered part of being a good driver as well as being very much a daily occurence in some parts of the world. Of course the risk of accidents are bigger, but then again, the speed is usually lower meaning the consequences are less.

It was race # 5 in the RCN series http://www.r-c-n.com/

The video and OP clearly states that this was a race, not a tourist day on the track...

Impressive driving and car control by the OP

Wow, truly terrific display of control and awareness of your environment. Given the tire setup and driving conditions, I would have left half of the car at the track that day! Thank you for sharing!

Insane video.

But you left the most important part out of the thread title. The title should read, "Slicks + Nordschleife + Rain = Scary Movie."

Most racing slicks need 200F (93C) for maximum grip. You're even near that in the wet so it doesn't make sense at all to run slicks. Unless you just like to risk balling up your car. Nice driving by the way. No point racing in the rain on slicks unless there a chance it could dry up or you just didn't have a spare wet weather spares.

Allow me to guide you to the portion where the OP was hoping for exactly what you said.

been a few vln's and n24's myself. always cringe at making the call to swap to rain tires. good driving! its so hard to explain to someone racing on slicks in the rain and sliding until hit a dry spot actually makes sense to try. lol

Totally different, but we used to drive our road karts (fixed gear, not shifter) in the wet with slicks. Seemingly impossible to keep the rear in the back and the front in the front lol.
