Michelin PSS - Do they lose grip after some wear?
Hi Guys.
First time poster here, as I had seen a few comments on the Michelin PSS here I thought it would be the best place to ask. I got a car with about 400rwhp and lots of Torque (Turbo). I put Michelin Pilot super sports in and when they were new they stuck to the road like crazy. It seems after about 30% of wear, they seem to grip less, or is it just me? Has anybody experienced the same with these Tyres, or do they keep gripping the same? Next, has anybody compared Pilot Sport Cups to the PSS, how much better is the rear end grip under power? Cheers. |

Most tires will heat-cycle & begin to lose grip--especially if they're turned over often, under power. This is normal & becomes more pronounced on high-HP cars when trying to put power down.
Hope this helps...

I've found that tyres in general are at their best once you have worn off about 25% (some race car series that had to use road tyres used to shave off around this amount to optimise grip for a race) and start to fade as they get down to the last 25%.

My rear PSS started to lose some forward bite at about 6/32" of tread depth. Still good just not as good. They are more like a "mortal" summer tire in straight-line forward grip anyway IMO, the cornering magic is in that outer tread block with its softer compound
