Any DCT's replaced?

Just curious how many miles a DCT should last for. Assuming it hasnt been launched a bunch of times My SA says 75k miles.

Wondering for those with the clutch replaced, how many miles.

I was going for a E60 M5 but scared to death with all the SMG issues.

There is no way BMW built a transmission with a 75k mile life. Some may go out then or sooner, but I would be surprised if non-abused ones last much longer.

Doesn't seem like anyone has had them replaced due to wear over time. Mostly early in cars life or SC'd which says nothing about longevity to me. Still no real answers about DCT life, but think in this instance "no news is good news"

I think your SA has no idea what he is talking about. I think the DCT will last a very long time, without abuse. I have 77K on mine with no hint of issues.

I do know the performance school at the plant does not replace DCTs but they replace the clutches and flywheels (wear items), but I do not know how often. Those cars are run hard and put away wet.

You'd be surprised if they DID last much longer than 75K? OP, are you asking about DCT clutches or the transmission itself? If people are thinking that the entire transmission will need to be replaced at 75K, I think that's nuts -- and if it's true, well that's just one more reason to be happy I went 6MT.

i traded in my last e92 m3 at 81k miles DCT. i must have launched that car like 100+ times over the 3 years i had it.. not to mention, i sure to drive the hell out of it... the DCT tranny seems pretty bulletproof to me.. now my new m3... it gets baby'd lol

The DCT is basically an "off the shelf" transmission built by Getrag used under licence by BMW. The design spec of the DCT permits it to be used in cars with more power and more torque. The multi disk wet clutch is closer in design to the clutch packs used in differentials than those used in MTs with the attendant very long life expectancy. The way that gears are preselected means that you won't get the damage to gears and synco rings that can occur in an MT due to misuse. Anecdotal failure rates for DCT seem to be extremely low however a failure out of warranty could be pricey - although the fact that a DCT is defined as a sealed for life unit would put BMW in a difficult position if you pressed them in court for some sort of good will payment.

On the M5, dont, just dont. I had one for 7 months. The car spent more time at the shop being fixed due to SMG issues than actually being on the road.

Awesome engine, pity the rest of the transmission let it down
