2003 E55 vs e9x m3..?

I'd buy a E63 AMG coupe in a heartbeat.....Would love to have a 991 911 and a E63 AMG has a DD. Sorry..I was day dreaming.

That is all stop light races are. How many times has the M3 been considered the better overall car even when another was faster... lots. I swear that if someone invents a car that traps 150 in the 1/4 mile but only has one seat, no radio, shitty brakes, can't corner worth crap and is unreliable to boot it would still be the "coolest" car to own on the forums Not a comment about the E55 but rather the whole "which car is faster" pissing match. The significance people put on a car's speed (which, BTW, is only one of its many characteristics) is just crazy. The cars will spend 95-100% of their time on the road. Roughly 5% track these cars they only track them 5% in it's lifetime. Mercs seem to fit that bill perfectly and BMW is now jumping on that boat with turbo's.

I don't buy the stat that 5% see the track and I would love to know where you got that stat. In the city where I live, at least 30% to 40% of the M3s see somewhat regular track time (there are only about 9 or 10 e92 M3's and three or four are regularly at the HPDE's).

But, IMO, my point still stands. ANY car faster than an M3, even on public roads, is pure pissing contest material. The M3 is a silly fast car on public roads... are there faster cars? Absolutely. My thought is so what. For me personally (not for everyone), I would take the driving dynamics and fun of an M3 or 911 C2S over a faster Merc anyday of the week. That is obviously personal preference. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the AMGs out there and absolutely respect them but the fact they might be faster in a straight line is irrelevant to me. I don't race on public streets (pissing contest), I don't race on highways (pissing contest) but I DO drive aggressively on back roads, on/off ramps and the track. This is where the balance and dynamics of the M3 is better than any Merc is its price range for me. If I wasn't driving an m3 it would be a C2S or Cayman R for the very same reason. It's an M3 today because I need a level of practicality too... someday when I don't (kids grown), I will get myself a C2S or GTS.

totally agree!!!merc love use huge cc(big engine) to make car go faster....for driving enjoyment m3 performance is too good for public road driving,even on the track...

A stock E55 (like my 2003) should be a little faster in a straight line, but not by much-after all it's a 4100lb pig.

Having said that, I'm planning on trading "up" to an E90 M3. It think it's the best overall car on the market. After 6 years in the E55, I'm missing the 6sp manual, fold down rear seats and track worthy handling.

Both are great cars, but the M3 rules IMO.
