TSW Nurburgring RF

Anyone have any feedback on this wheel? I'm considering it for a track set up but I would like to know what owners or vendors think of the quality..............Phil

The main thing that has been missed here is that they are indeed forged and the price is extremely competitive

Forgive my ignorance, but is that good or bad? I like them. Mainly I'd use them for DD and occasional track use, like once every 3 months or spirited mountain climbs. What's their quality like and how do these wheels stand up to weathering and daily wear?

I've done some web surfing on this wheel and so far so good. Read one review where wheel had a few small chips and TSW sent a replacement with no problem. I'm thinking this will be a good inexpensive track wheel. I might be in........I'll keep all posted............Phil

TSW is a huge supplier of aftermarket and OE wheels. There quality is solid in my experience (had some TSW Snetterton wheels on my last car). I've seen this wheel running on track-rat 5.0 mustangs recently and asked the owner (who also owns Western Motorsports) what he thought. All positive feedback including how light they were for the $

While the process description doesn't really say, it does sound like they are cast wheels with rotary forged (flow formed) rims. Here's what the TSW site says (I think if you read it carefully, you'll agree):
* The Nurburgring is manufactured using a highly advanced production technique called rotary forging. The rim of the wheels is forged at high pressure while the wheel is spin at high speed. this alters the molecular structure and enhances the strength of the alloy. The benefit is a much lighter weight than a regular cast wheel. Most importantly, the weight saving is in the outer rim of the wheel which dramatically reduces rotational mass and enhances vehicle performance.

Problem is if you want to do the 19X9.5 up front you will need a 15mm spacer to get to the right offset. I just see a 41mm offset for a 5X120.

I bought a set of four 19x9.5" Nurburgring RF's with the machined face for my 2011 Mustang GT 5.0. They're beautifully made, BUT no two wheels were the same dimensions. The face machining was clearly uncontrolled, and the rims varied in depth by about 2mm from the thickest to the thinnest one. This variation includes the amount material that's been machined off the face of the spokes.

Via my dealer, TSW's customer service said "we're not interested" and that was that.

They look fine and are ok for daily driving but I wouldn't go near a racetrack with them.

My opinion, based on this experience: nice looking rims, no manufacturing quality control, no customer service.

Rotary forged != forged. It is a cast wheel with some extras. Very misleading description of the construction. Similar to flow formed, the manufacturers say forged like strength but its still a cast wheel. Making a forged wheel and selling it for a profit at ~$300/wheel is virtually impossible.

That wouldn't bother me at all if it was still a quality wheel.

Dave
I have some track days to get through (I'll run my Shelby rims, not the TSW's) and then I'll put them on and take a few photos.
