help with choosing a x-pipe setup?
i've tried searching for the answer but i just keep getting more and more confused x.x from what i've researched i think the best setup might be an
1. fabspeed x-pipe with hfc and resonators 2. riss racing x-pipe with hfc 3. aa x-pipe (the one i've least looked into so can anyone vouch for this?) (im also using these on a stock muffler) either way, how can i NOT throw a CEL? passing emissions is a big deal for me since im in california so thats pretty much my first priority. the other 2 factors are smell and noise level ( i live in a pretty quiet neighborhood so i dont wanna scare the neighbors at night) edit: oh yeah, i dont wanna cut any pipe either so full a full bolt-on system so..yeah |

You should add Gintani to your list. Gintani IMO makes the most power, and has the best location for the actual "X".

AA X-Pipe with HFCs + Stock Exhaust introduced drone/resonance at various points between 2000RPM - 4000RPM...but definitely felt like it added reasonable torque and power.

The Gintani setup people are running are catless = will throw CEL. I believe they offer a cat setup as well but it runs 300 cell cats and not sure which brand they are. Good luck and keep us posted on how you like it. My Fabspeed stuff should be arriving here tomorrow so will post comments once it is installed.

we recommend the Fabspeed X-pipe with HFC.
Fabspeed guarantees a non-CEL set up and the resonator options helps in minimizing drone. Overall, I think that this is a great set up!

Riss is working on a simulator fix that will prevent the CEL code. They will be offering this at a discount for all RR X-Pipe owners and will also offer it as a separate option if you have a different brand X-Pipe. That way you can go catless or catted without a CEL down the road.

You can't go wrong with Riss either, they actually stand behind their products when something isn't right. What's nice is there's no drone with their setup.

if I lived in the states I would go for FABSPEED or Encore
I like where to place the cats! and they won't give you a CEL issue

Dear OP,
The Active Autowerke X Pipe w/ "stubby pipe" would allow you to maximize your horsepower gains while retaining your factory cats. See images below... You have a PM as well. |

Something amiss here but I am no expert as I am trying to find out what the best setup is. If you retain the factory cats; how would you gain any extra torque or power/bhp from the new setup?

By deleting the secondary cats. Some systems also have non-restrictive resonators as well.

I noticed little to no gain by adding Fabspeed's secondary cat & resonator delete. A waste of money IMHO. Now when I switched to Encore's set-up I noticed a very nice gain in power. The moral of this story is don't bother unless your deleting the primaries too .

If you only eliminate the secondary cats, you'll prob only pick up 5+ HP, no one's going to feel that little of a gain on this car.

Yup but earlier in this post or another thread you said you had both the Fabspeed setup and now the Encore, further stating that you feel both have their flaws. This may be true, but can't compare apples to oranges when you were not running the Fabspeed cats imho.
