Lightbulb people not using the search function, posting in the wrong section, etc...

anybody else getting annoyed by the amount of repeat questions on the general forum that could've been answered by a simple search? i'm sure there are a lot of newbs on the board due to the release of the e92, and we welcome them. but seriously, use the search!!

also the amount of posts in the wrong sections is on the rise. i know this is giving a lot of work to the admins of this forum (who we totally appreciate! ).

i guess what i'm saying, is this forum seems to be suffering some growing pains and if possible, the community guidelines needs to be highlighted more. for example, on s14.net, they stick this in a section all it's own that reads "If you can see this Forum it is meant for you".

Is it really that bad?

I don't think so, I understand your point but it's really not that bad.

the thing with the search function is that it's not as accurate. Sometimes I'd type in exact title of a thread and it would come up with nothing.

ALso if you want to find out an exact answer to a question, it's sometimes easier to just make a new thread.

I know it gets annoying so I just try to block it out. nothing I can do really.

I have only been on this board a few months and it has deteriorated about 50% I would argue. Sure the search isn't spotlight but if you play around you can usually get at what you want.

Obviously some people are not prepared to expend any effort at all before broadcasting some dipshit query to everyone.

/Rant off

I feel this happens way too much, but its going to happen no matter what.

People are lazy, and wont use the search function...

In the meantime... I will be chiming in with DO A SEARCH, RTFM, and YOUR AN IDIOT posts...

yes, it will happen no matter what, i totally agree with that. it's like that on almost any forum. the point is, it's happening a lot more often now.

as for the search not being accurate, it's probably not 100% right, but i think that's a poor argument for not trying to use the search function first.

my suggestion is to highlight the community rules more. it's currently sitting on the buttom of the sticky list. the thread is closed, but maybe one of the admins can bump it back up to the top. another suggestion would be to have that thread sticky'd on every section and sub-section. last suggestion would be to have a whole seperate section as well for the community rules, that reads "IF YOU CAN SEE THIS FORUM, IT WAS MEANT FOR YOU. PLEASE READ." and lock it (idea taken from s14.net).

better solution, everyone get 3 strikes. If you post a new thread that already been posted, you loose a strike. When all your strikes are taken away, someone will escort you to the back and shoot you and that is the last time anyone will ever see you again on the forum.

I'm getting more annoyed at the people who say, "I know this is not the correct forum, but I thought it will get more attention here."

1. If they know it is wrong, why do they do it?

What makes them so special.

Suppose everyone felt that way?

2. Most people click on "New Posts" so they see everything anyway.

So they should just put it in the correct forum.
