BMW CEO Harald Kruger just spoke at BMW's annual financial results conference where he gave some insight into the BMW i4 (production version of the iVision Dynamics Concept).

"With the fifth generation of eDrive, our vehicles will be able to drive 550 to 700 kilometres on electric power, depending on the model. We will achieve this in the BMW i4."

That gives the BMW i4 an impressive 340 to 435 mile range on just a single charge. The i4 will run on lithium-ion battery cells.

Expect the BMW i4 to land around 2020.

This is likely to be my next BMW to replace my current Chevy Bolt EV. If it truly will have this kind of range, it will change everything! But so far I've had several instances where I have achieved over 300 miles of range in my Bolt EV. Pretty awesome these EV's are.

Plus I saw the concept i4 at the LA Autoshow in person and thought it looked awesome.

I ride my bike to work because it takes a little over three minutes and thirty seconds, while my car is in the driveway and it's use is generally for errands and fun trips.

Lately I have been considering a EV for general use and a buddy has also been considering an EV for him and his wife to add to their stable.

This could be a very interesting proposition instead of a SAV for me.

With all the car makers jumping on board, I am hoping they are going to figure out what to do with all the batteries when no longer useable or become damaged. Batt recycling looks may have a lucrative future in it.

Looks good, now get it on the road.

They could tweak fake kidney grills a bit.

I mean I am sure it will hit the MPGs they quoted if you drive it like a Camry, but who on this forum does that?

This looks very similar to the Volvo concept. Both are nice and sleek. But this i4 and the X7 are looking too similar to Volvos, who is copying who?

I ride my bike to my office too on days that I need to be in. Takes me 40 mins each way & I get a GREAT workout. I don't have to worry about getting my cars dented in the lot or parking attendants moving it around (it's very dense where I work - Beverly Hills). Mainly using my cars also for weekends or trips w/ my lady

Very cool. My only concern is safety with these EVs. The one thing no one talks about is whether or not the batteries pose an additional danger as far as blowing up or catching fire if they are hit a certain way...or just because (Samsung?)...

I haven't yet fully understood the logic of assigning the task of designing electric vehicles to a team that is driven by the motto "less appealing is more appealing".

If i4 will look like 440i GC, it might very well be on my shopping list.

How does the "grill" look in real?

hahaha that reminds me of an episode of "the grand tour" when jeremy clarkson was talking about the Model X range and a lawyer told him "not everyone drives like a maniac like you"

Course. I liked being part of the environmentally elite social circles because of my $1000 deposit.

Sometimes you gotta protect yourself...from yourself. I just dropped way over that on my M3 mods!
