M3 Wheel Sizing
So I've read through most all of the posts and specs from wheel manufacturers. While there is a selection of wheels close to the stock 18/19" by 8.5/9.5" ET 29/23 mm sizes, all 3 or these dimensions vary from one manufacturer to the next. Some people have seemingly experimented successfully with seriously wider wheels/tires with different offsets/spacers. Can someone get BMW/M to divulge the range/combination of diameters, widths, offsets, and tire sizes that will fit inside the wheel wells? It would be good to know the limits of what can safely be done. BMW must know this from their CAD/CAM work and because the marketing guys will want to bump up wheel widths a bit as the E90-92 ages in order to "improve" its performance and appeal. There is no reason why any of this should be a mystery. What would also be really cool is if BMW would provide a little support regarding clearances for those who are considering a drop - but this likely asking too much unless M were to offer/sell cut down coils.
And while I'm at it, why don't wheel manufacturers provide some sort of measure as to how strong/resiliant their wheels are? We all "know" that forged is stronger than cast - but how much? Resistence to bending would be the acid test. Wouldn't that be a great metric to have about a wheel. |
