I didn't know they still made those, which were popular like in the 90s. It was hard to tell from the description I read.

I think they are available with current Mercedes: http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars...en/N2750E.html but in the UK they are only available direct from Mercedes dealers and not from Vredestein. I'm waiting for a price on the tyre and expecting it to be big money.
Maybe worth a note under the heading other tyres worth considering?

Has anyone figured out who to buy the Maxxis tire from on the East Coast? I'm thinking of going with that, because of the fit/load issues identified with the T125, but am having a hard time sourcing the tire. Everyone (including the local Cadillac dealer) keeps telling me to go to a junkyard--that cannot be the only way to get a compact spare tire.

As an alternative to the Maxxis 135/70r18 there is the 135/80r18 by Pirelli.

You want to go through a tire dealer, not car dealer. Email Brad Barrett (bbarrett@maxxis.com) at Maxxis International USA and ask who dealers in your area are.

That should work (a couple tenths of an inch larger than OEM rears).

Sorry, that wasn't clear in my post--I tried the tire dealers on the Maxxis website in my area; they are the ones that said they could not get the tire. I also tried Discount Tire Online, which sells some Maxxis tires, but they said that they do not stock the compact spares.

Ultimately, I did e-mail Brad, who indicated that the easiest way to source the tire is to go through a car dealer (he said any GM dealer would be able to do it). Separately, I'd contacted Lindsay Cadillac in Alexandria, VA, who apparently had also contacted Brad; they were able to order the tire for me from Maxxis. It should be here in 3-5 days, with a total cost of less than $100.

To sum up, you should be able to get any GM dealer to order the Maxxis tire for you, but if you are having trouble try Lindsay Cadillac.

Sounds like the tire dealers you contacted didn't "want to be bothered." Of course they don't stock the tire, but the dealer here special ordered it out of Texas with no poroblem. I had tried the Cadillac dealer here previously, and they were no help.

Tire came in and was mounted yesterday. Looks a lot nicer and fits a lot better than the T125. I'm glad I went to the trouble of ordering the Maxxis, and thanks again to Greg for figuring all of this out.

Here's a slightly better shot of the spare in the trunk of an E90.

I've been struggling to source the Bridgestone 145/70r18 tyre but Bridgestone.eu have just emailed to say that they have the tyre available in their Zebrugge plant and are going to arrange shipment over to the UK so thats hopefull.

For future UK searchers:
I picked up my Bridgestone 145/70 R18 space saver tyre ordered direct from Bridgestone UK cost £79...worth the extra pennies for the perfect size being half way between the front and rear wheel diameters.
Contact Bridgestone UK to arrange for a tyre to be imported and then delivered to a depot in your area.
Why isn't this thread a sticky!

Wow, that is a lot less expensive, even considering the exchange rate, than they sell that tire over here. Good deal!

I was referring to the tire, not the wheel. This tire would still go on the BMW wheel.

I called the company and it's actually a genuine BMW part. 1/2 price!

Wow -- great find. The BMW price is pretty high for a steel wheel.

None in North Dakota or Oklahoma either. Lack of demand in those markets, I assume.
