Feature Coding by Benvo w/ Euro Hard Brake Flash

Covered on a lot of threads, but I can re-iterate what everyone has said about Mike Benvo's coding. It was super-convenient (can be run from a Mac computer for non-PC ppl like me) and he is a responsive, no-nonsense guy who knows exactly what he's doing.

In addition to doing the typical stuff (euro MDM, headlights, efficient dynamics, etc), what was really cool is that he took extra time to figure out the Euro hard braking feature (the brake lights flash rapidly upon hard braking when ABS is engaged, and when come to a complete stop, the hazards come on). There has been a lot of debate in the past that flashing brake lights seen video footage were actually a product of filming/frame rates, but no, it is a real feature enabled in most countries in continental Europe.

Also liked that he checked faults and and reset everything and found some errors with my tune, which was really helpful feedback.

Would highly recommend him.

around 5 hundo +/- depending on what you get.. but that's what I paid. would encourage to contact him directly for exact pricing. I got Euro MDM, bright angel eyes, 4-headlight high beams, auto unlock, efficient dynamics, start-stop last setting, auto fold mirrors, DSC off in M dynamic settings, Euro hard braking, windshield wiper completion cycle, eliminate "accept button/fasten seat belts" change low fuel indicator.

I had a mac, so on my end took about 15 mins to download VMware and a file sharing software (both free), 10 mins to copy his software to my laptop. Coding took about 30 mins + extra 30 mins as he tried (and successfully) figured out the Euro braking.

on the amber digital screen between the speedo/tach, tells you what gear you should be in for max fuel efficiency (helpful on 6MT cars) in addition to giving you a real time fuel economy

Hmm.... I wonder why that isn't an US option? Lol. Sounds pretty neat. Though... every time I tell myself I'm not going to get on it with the M3, I lie to myself.

Wow, that is pricey for basic remote coding.

Coding for the Brake Force Display is quite easy.

There are actually 3 braking stages that are codable.

1. Normal Braking
2. Hard Braking (BFD1)
3. Extreme Hard Braking (BFD2)

You can adjust slowdown speed and lights for BFD1 and BFD2 and behavior for the stages.


This is a car that I coded with the Extreme Braking Stage set to flashing.

Edited - following clarification of what is/is not possible in coding.....

Competition is always good and if anyone can provide 2 specific options that I need, I would definitely be buying:

1. OBD port to be disabled when ignition is off
2. Car auto locks x minutes (configurable) after door closure if key not present (comfort access vehicle so no chance of locking key inside)

They are my must haves, with a selection of nice to haves from the existing Benvo menu.

In the unlikely event that anyone can remotely code these, then please get in touch!

Coding is NOT the development of programing routines and procedures in the BMW space. The word Coding is a misnomer in this case. To put it simply, it is the activation, disablement or value settings for predefined features that are embedded in the car. If a "Wish" feature doesn't exist then it won't happen or a piggy back or hack solution will have be created. Not to say that you can't have the options that you are looking for but don't hold your breath.

Point taken.
Auto relocking of doors (if unopened since unlocking) is a standard idrive configurable item. I want this to trigger if the door has been opened since unlocking.
Agreed - OBD disabled at ignition off might be a little more difficult.

But given that variable brightness angel eyes and variable sensitivity adaptive headlights are not normally configurable items, is this any more difficult?

It is. The kind of OBD you are referring to is done via CAN bus (there are also other signal on the OBD connector). Most control units are connected to this bus with a two-wire connection, as well as the OBD port. You obviously cannot disable the CAN bus completely because you could not even unlock the car without it. So, there would have to be a cutoff relais which can disable the OBD port selectively. There is no hardware of that sort, just two pins of the OBD port are connected to the CAN bus.

Yes. There are only two types of configurable "parameters":

1. Parameters that are user-changeable via an I-Drive menu or console setting.
2. Parameters that are configurable only via coding. This is a limited set of predefined values that can be altered, auto-locking is not among them, while your other examples are.

If you want a functionality that is in neither subset, you would have to introduce them by changing the program of the control unit in question - this is very much harder than changing the value of a parameter in a text file and feeding it to the unit.

This sure would blow the minds of guys behind me on the track! Is Extreme only when ABS is engaged?

Extreme only is basically a complete panic stop with full ABS a high rate of deceleration coming down from a moderate or significant rate of speed. If you see that on the track they are doing it wrong

Or they are just tree huggers, since in that case the start-stop will also shut off the engine in that case, see here at 2:37.

I have been trying and no luck... It doesn't flash at all. I have 2008 e90 m3(per-lci) with lci tail lights. I have done following coding regarding bfd but still not be able to enable bfd.

try setting BFD_1_ALGORITHMUS to aktiv
