Anyway, the RS is much more than a step up from the M3. No offense to any M3 owners. I would love one as my dd to replace my 335 but not to replace my weekend warrior gt3, let alone an RS.
Ha ha , I've already lost days of sleep over this! Even tried to encourage my older son to try go-karts, but I am more interested than him.

Not an easy one... have you ever had the p-car? (For me the RS is my first p-car just like the M3 is my first BMW.)
If the p-car is some sort of dream, or must have for you go for it, you will not regret it, altough based on your avatar - if that's you- you have plenty of time to get one.

No, my problem is not the RS, - "loosing sleep" is not about the car itself -more like to decide what to accomplish on track and how.
The RS was just a step forward but it feels not enough if..and the if is the question here.. if I want to race..

ah - ... if I had the means to, I would get an old S2000 or an Exige.. and spend $$$ on track speccing it - upgrading to really good brakes, suspension, exhaust, tires etc... and then race the heck out of it ...

you probably do have the means. my instructor at PR said i could get a fully ready track preped e30 that would turn faster laps than my m3 by quiet a bit, for less than exhaust, bbk and coilovers for said m3.

yep - my problem is more of a logistical / wife one - the M3 for me is a perfect DD and once/twice a month track car... so its perfect .. if I get a dedicated track car - that's one more car I need to maintain, store, upgrade etc.... plus my wife's car.. three cars = a bit too much for me right now.. unless I sell the M3 and get a dedicated track car (hehehe)

Some people just have no grasp on how fast an out of the box GT3 is. The person who mentioned the 24/hr N-Ring time gave a great example..

Here's mine. I clocked a 1:32 lap time as a PASSENGER in a dead stock 997 GT3.1 with Hoosier slicks and CCW wheels w/ a professional driver at Road Atlanta. The car would do 160mph on the back straight. 160... Porsche's turn into even infinitely more incredible machines when you stop them from sliding around every corner entry/exit on proper race tires
This might sound familiar to those that saw Chris Harris' GTR vs GT2 review. The car was faster on almost every section of the track but simply could no put the power down with street radials

GO LOOK UP THE LAP TIMES OF the Petit Le Mans that happened this weekend @ Road Atlanta.

Fifth Gear tested the 911 Turbo S against the 2012 GT-R. The Turbo S is faster but just barely.

Funny they never run the straight Turbo against the GTR anymore.

I agree. I never see them compared anymore. GTRs initial target was the 911 tt. After proving itself, they started using the 911 tts when it arrived in 2010. I think part of the reason they released it was in response to the GTR.

Porsche almost always introduces the turbo S at the end of the cycle, 2005 996 turbo S, etc; before GTRs existed.

Well, that's true. Nevertheless, it was good timing.

Racing for some team and put up huge money just to be part of the team and realize that I am not "Senna" feels like a big vaste to me. Rather do some charity and help the less fortunate. On the other hand every time on the track want to do more. The GT3 RS was a step up from the M3, the cup or maybe a radical SR8 would be another step up but then I would be clearly out of my range in terms of abilities. Pluss I just dont have the time right now.
I do not know, and I do not expect any advise on these thoughts here, especially not on this thread but the frustration is there.
I even went so far as to buy some land and build a go-kart track and go with a 125cc shifter kart.
Anyway, I never wanted to say that the GT3RS is not a great car, but it's not without fault, especially if you are frustrated!
I hope youve looked into the costs of rebuilding a GT3 Cup car motor and trans after a certain amount of hours of racing. My business partner has spent over 50k in maintenance, tires and fuel this year. He has a 2010 GT3 Cup car. The most reasonable thing is the company he has store the vehicle I envy his setup. They trailer it in their semi truck and run the whole pit crew. Cost is abouty $1000 for the entire 3 day weekend and they provide lunch and dinner. First class. Hes worked his way up in the run groups. Hes about mid 50's in age. Its the way to go. If you are serious, do it. I know his motor was rebuilt for somewhere over $20k dollars and he had to have the gearbox sent off and "inspected" before he could be in some PCA club race. Im not sure what they do but as he explains it, they did a rebuild and certify you aren't cheating with any gears. Month ago, another driver put him into the wall. Now hes on a new front end and copied over the aero package from the RSR.

Go to a designer shop lay down the gtr's key while asking the price of the handbag see what the sales person's attitude would change as compared to when they see a key of BMW. it's the value mate! If you want a Nissan don't pay 100k, get a PS3!
