Is wind a problem?

I have an e70 x5 sport package with monster 315/35/20s in the back. I don't feel the wind at all in my car and I'm sure it's because the tires are so wide. I'm thinking about selling the x5 an getting an m3. My wife has an x3 and the wind pushes her car all over the road. My question is how does the M3 take a beating from wind? Anyone have experience with my car and the M3? Any help would be great. Thanks.

i beat off in the wind......
seriously, you think the wind will affect the m3 sitting 4 inches off the ground with a track as wide as the x5?

I don't really see how wider tires help with crosswinds, unless they're so strong you're losing traction

You can of course feel strong cross winds in the M, but they don't move the car much. Unlike my wife's Armada, which resembles a sail...

Cheers

This ^^^ exactly ... so strong cross winds just means being on guard and adjust your driving like in most other passenger cars.

This is a strange thread. I've never found wind to be an issue in any car really.

I don't remember the last time the wind beat me off

the road.

Thanks for the input. I agree, this is a strange thread, but the effect the wind has on my wife's car is wicked and mine is seemingly uneffected by it. The width of the tires seemed like it wouldn't make any difference to me either, but that's the biggest difference between my wife's x3 and my car so I don't know what else could attribute to the difference.

Well gentleman it's all about aerodynamics. Wind is a serious issue now and days especially with winds being 10-20mph gusting at 30 more of a norm in across the US. How do you avoid such issue... Simple solution, drop the car to about .02 inches of the ground. A good front diffuser and strong and sturdy rear diffuser... If you drop the car and fail to put an obnoxiously large diffuser you've wasted your time, you slap on the diffuser and don't drop the car- you will probably die with anything over 40MPH.

I'm just f-ing with you... Who cares about the wind????

My car, though it sits a bit lower, is taller then my wife's. You would think I'd get blown all over too, but I don't. Two days ago we were driving home in our respective cars and when we got home she remarked about how horrendous the wind was, I said "It was windy?" Literally. Wind doesn't move me and I love that fact. I'm just curious if that's the same with the M3. As a previous poster said, it sits 4" off the ground and has the same track as the X5, so I'm guessing its pretty unaffected by wind as well. Would still like to hear from someone that deals with some serious winds in their M3 though. Thanks.

As a 6 year owner of an E92, no, wind is not a big issue with that car. Even our X5, while almost driving into a tornado during a big downpour, was not perturbed. Had I driven into a tornado, that would have been a much different story and I wouldn't be making this post!

I think this thread highlights the predicament of this forum. We've run out of questions for the E9x platform but we don't have enough info on the F8x platform to move on yet.

If it is windy I am more careful. 240km/h on the autobahn rather than 255.

Crosswinds on the autobahn can be felt for sure at high speeds.
