Track Prep Mistakes

--> Forgetting to thoroughly clean out the inside of the cockpit before the first session (remember, this is my DD).

Off the top of my head, I've left a radar detector teetering on the passenger visor; had a tennis ball roll out from under my seat and bounce around the pedals (scary as hell); had fast food napkins fluttering out the window down the backstretch at RA (embarrassing but not lethal); numerous metallic items (wrenches?) rattling around in the glove compartment thru the turns; etc...

Sometimes that first morning at a track event can be hurried to get going...

I always forget my compressor until the last minute because I stick it in the rear passenger footwell. I also have gotten all harnessed in and realized my hood was up.

Don't leave the door all the way open. Sucks when you get the harness, HANS, and everything just right...then you can't reach the door to close it. In a pinch you could just roll forward and then slam on the brakes.

It's probably happened to everyone...

Make sure your hood is completely closed and latched on both sides of the car. Mine wasn't pushed down all the way on the passenger side and it started trying to pop open going 110+. I was like WTF is going on!

+1000 Mine didn't start doing that, but I noticed the hood didn't look right after I came in after a session; unfortunately there were a lot of great pictures taken by the track photographer during that session and I was looking to get a poster made, and the messed up hood totally ruined a few otherwise great shots.

F*kn Hilarious. I'm at work and I seriously laughed out loud.

On a serious note you point out something very important clean your car out the night before and leave it all at home; so you dont have that pile of sh8t next to your car. lol That much longer to leave when you have to sit there and pack it all again.

Yes, I have never understood people that just show up. Even people with track wheels and change pads but still have random garbage they have to pile up.

Lol...I've definitely forgot the radar detector before.

I've also made it out on track with no numbers, the pass side door cracked open (saw that in the hot pit...can't really stop at that point), hood popped, and sat in the grid with my trunk lid open and didn't realiZe it (grid Marshall was pointing and laughing at me...I was like WTF!)...never had my drivers door open yet.

But the worst (except for the jack in the trunk) was forgetting to lower my tires pressures from 36psi cold. I think I wore out the steering column that session making so many corrections. Hot PSI was 49. Just a tad high...

Forgot moon roof open twice in one day. Not fun being that guy having the flagger holding your number and another pointing a black flag at you.

I actually made it all the way to turn 4 at VIR with no freakin seatbelt on once. Talk about being in a hurry. Fortunately it was a warm up lap under yellow flag, don't know how I made it out without the pit boss catching it......

I've done that before, and was freaking as the tensioner in the belt wouldn't let me pull it out, was a bit frazzled. Drove a whole day with a bottle of oil in the trunk, didn't move around at all though have had change flying around, no numbers a few times, they kinda know me, hood open, and drove over my tire gauge on the way out once, that was embarrassing. Loved the jack in the back...priceless
