What to use to tape cable to winshield?

I'm trying to tape the power cable of my V1 to the top of the windshield to keep it out of sight without hard-wiring it. I tried double-sided tape but it doesn't work that well. Any other ideas?

Tuck it under the headliner. It pulls down enough to fit it in with your fingers very easily.

I don't have an M3 actually, I have a MB E55 and I don't think it comes down easily.

Shouldn't have to take down the headliner. The gap should be large enough to tuck the phone cable under the headliner with some mild pressure. If you purchase a long-enough cable, you can snake the cable around the headliner, door trim, and other trim, all the way back to the power outlet, essentially looking like a hard-wired V1.

Yes. Every car/truck I have ever had works the same way in regards to the headliner. Trust us ... it will work.

Just tuck it in the headliner... No need to even pull it down any just put the wire at the gap and press it in... Simple as dimple

Mine kept falling out from the headliner, so I loosened the sunshade mounting screws and ran the cable under the plastic clips, then re-tightened them. I still don't have a good way to route the cord past the glovebox, so I just leave it in the glovebox :-)

I also had this issue, so lengthened my cable so I could run to the power outlet in the center armrest. Under the floor trim, under the passenger seat, and discreetly up the side of the center console beside the passenger seat back. Much cleaner look than to the front power outlet (at least from the driver's seat!).

It is totally worth getting it hardwired. Just locate it at the bottom of the driver side A pillar. Looks great and out of the way. Not expensive either if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Not sure if you've read Mike Valentine's recommendations on where to mount your detector. He suggests high and centered - by the rear view mirror.

Makes sense to mount it there. I've had mine low and to the left on 3 different cars and have never been pulled over while installed. I just like it out of the way and without cluttered wires. Function seems to be there as well.

You get the best range mounting it higher. I keep it high enough up that it blends in the rearview mirror and sunshades. In my M5 I have the remote display so I mount it high enough that I can barely see it.

Just hardwire it to the mirror; no permanent modification done to the car at all. Look for that DIY. To deal with the dangling cord when not using the detector, I installed a round piece of velcro on the forward portion of the headliner (only visible thru the windshield 1" away, if you look for it), as well as tie-wrap the mating piece to the cable, so when not in use, it's velcroed to the headliner completely out of sight. Again, since everything is black, you have to look for it with a flashlight from the outside. Or stick your head above the dash while looking up inside the car. Just a suggestion.

The headliner wasn't coming down easily so I just tucked the wire under the passenger sun visor and tucked it into the panel on the A pillar. It looks pretty decent because the wire is grey and the pillar is grey.

If you decide to use tape, I can recommend Gorilla Tape. I used some to attach my V1 cable to the passenger side of the center console, and it's been there 18 months, still solid. I've used it to attach brake ducts under the fender of other cars, and the stuff is really strong and durable.

I bought the hardwire kit from V1 for $19 plus another $7 for the fuse tap at auto zone and took about 45 minutes to install. I followed the instructions below. Well worth it like the others have said.
