BMW Performance Steering wheel Alcantara vs v2 BMW P digital steering wheel
Hi dear friends of the forum
Just recently bought a 2011 M3 DCT and as much as I like the steering wheel for me ( and for a lot of other drivers ) the wheel it's to thick! So I was interested in your opinion about two BMW products : BMW performance steering wheel Alcantara (the normal one) And BMW performance steering wheel v2 ( digital ) Honestly i don't track often but still I want your opinion since many users had both. Nothing beats your experience in this! Are these two wheels really thiner or it's the same thing but just grippier?! A have a pilot friend that says that the v2 it's a waste of money and it's more like a poser wheel than a drivers wheel. For him it's the normal performance version all the way. What do you guys think? Thanks a lot for the opinions and help since I owe it to you guys my latest purchase the MPE that I can't thank enough Waiting for your help Your friend Paulo Martins |

The performance wheel is a little bit thinner. It also has depressions on the back side for your fingers.

BMWUSA site says BMW performance steering wheel v2 will not work on DCT cars. Anyone know for sure?

True, normally you can't fit it per se but actually the DCT paddles fit because the hole for the steptronic paddles are bigger. Also you need some tricks when you install it other wise the v2 wheel will not remember your setting. But no worries there are many posts here on how to do it properly so it will work perfectly.
As you know if you put the vin number of an M3 the v2 wheel doesn't appear for the reason mentioned above. Ah also you can't use Eco pro functions of the v2 on the M3 |

It's a little bit thinner (you can definitely tell), and has the dimples\depressions in the back. The wheel has a square base, so if you have bad habits (not keeping your hands in the right place on the wheel during turns), you will notice. Not sure what else there is to say.

FWIW, Alcantara wheels are a pain in the a$$ to clean. Oils from your hands are absorbed by the fabric then you need a cleaner and a suede brush to revitalize.
If you want something exactly to your liking, contact Dallas Custom Steering Wheel. They can make one any way you like at an OEM level of quality: http://www.dallassteeringwheel.com |

I did not want all the bells and whistles that the v2 has. Wanted to try out the alcantara and I love the blue stripe.

IMO i think the normal steering wheel is better . in terms of looks, i hate how its cloth material with a leather interior. doesn't fit the luxury interior

They are both made in Alcantara, but the v2 has other functions. The important thing is that the v2 even thou thiner than the original M3 wheel it's still thicker than the regular performance wheel. Do you guys confirm this? |
