Has Anybody had brakes (rotors and pads) replaced through the dealer?

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has had their brakes replaced at all four corners through the dealer? Just wondering what they charge. PM me if you don't want to let it out in public.

Not sure exactly how much they charge, but I'm sure it'll be too much. It's an easy DIY but if you don't want to do it yourself, take it to any reputable indy shop. They will be cheaper.

Thank you, this was very helpful.

I'm due for front brake service (replacement) by the end of the year as well. Debating BBK instead if stock rotors and pads are already close to $1500 + labour.

I just went through a similar excercise. I still have 30-50% left on my brakes but pulled the trigger on a BBK 2 weeks ago. I will put the old brakes back on when I sell my car next summer then sell the BBK as a part out.

I think there are a couple of options.

Option 1
Wait until the brakes are finished and go the OEM replacement route at approximately $2,000.

Option 2
Remove the OE brakes early, store them, and replace with BBK. When your ready to get rid of the car, pull the BBK off as a part out, replace with the OE brakes. Then sell the BBK for hopefully less than a $2000 loss from the brand new price.

It ties up a little cash, but it is an option for similar or possibly less outlay.

At least that's how I rationalized it!

I think the prices quoted included labor because they are quoted as "Service prices" and not just parts prices on the BMW site.

Thanks for the info, think dealer replacing is a ripoff! I'd rather either upgrade to a BBK or get 3rd party pads that are half the price & twice as good. Install will be cheaper @ an indy shop too.

Changed the pads myself. Paid 200 for front and rear pads (Hawk) and about 2 hours of my life. Pretty easy and straight forward work. Changing the rotors is not that difficult either. After market Rotors starts around 300/each for the M3.

So is it true that if you replace the pads before the warning comes on, there's no need to get new sensors? Anybody done this?

I stopped buying the OEM stuff, it's too dirty and I found something that stops better

There are so many guys selling their stock brakes over on the US private sellers forum. After they upgrade to BBK, they let the stuff go for very reasonable prices. I would go shopping there and have an independent shop do the work.
