Hey Guys - New non-BMW ride on its way

Yes I should have posted pics of my E91 by now. Next week I promise. But I just got a shot of tomorrow's present. For the wife's birthday (in about a month), we will be driving to Orlando tomorrow to pick up her Certified Pre-Owned 2003 Jaguar X-TYPE Supercharged R (they call it "Select Edition"). Here is the best pic I have of her. 14.5K on the clock, all records, all service history...as new. I will post more pics of the Jag as well as the E91 - NEXT WEEK. While it's not a Bimmer it's an M5 on the cheap...Before they move the posting (hopefully they let it stay for 60 secs.) - let me know what you think. 400HP - 400LB FEET OF TORQUE. Warranty bumper to bumper zero-deduct till 6/09...$31,500 plus taxes and associated goverment fees. Car was $60,000+++ new.

On the cheap, maybe.

There's a reason I'm sure why a 2003 M5 would cost almost the same now as it did new - and why this car is half off.

Yeah - it's a Ford/Lincoln - just don't call it a Mercury. My wife just loves the style of that car. I think the majority of the fairer sex adore Jaguars. It's definitely a lady's car but I think the R injects a bit more of the male hormone. You have to keep the better 1/2 of your marriage happy. This replaces her 2004 S-TYPE 3.0 V6. Yet another surprise a couple of years ago for Christmas. I dumped that for $28750 with 8K on the clock. I think I did well and a worthwhile upgrade for short money. This deal (while going back a year and up on mileage in terms of our just sold S-TYPE) make the vehicle acceptable to her and interesting to me. So it's a cool compromise. The way these things depreciate I think I'm driving a hell of a lot of Ford for the money . Wish me luck. I'm not at all offended by Ford comments. They are real. I think Ford's involvement with Jaguar helped Jaguar. However I think the Daimler Chrysler deal did the opposite for Mercedes Benz. Just my 2 cents. She thinks a BMW will be on her doorstep. Instead a far upgraded Ford with nice lines and a pretty kick ass powerplant .

Replacing a 3.0 V6 S-TYPE that I sold. She was upset at that news, but I think the upgrade will be just thing to soften the blow.

Excellent score! Congrats. I wish I had looked around a little more and found something like that before springing for my $40,000 slug slow vinyl clad Bavarian masterpiece.

Oh, but I've got $130 out of sequence oil changes and runflats to replace at 20km to look forward to.

Jonathan - we go back to the days of the E39.

My wife loved her special order Titanium/Stone Green 525i. This Bavarian wonder replaced a 2001 Lincoln LS Sport w/ 5-speed stick by the way. Thank god I leased that car.

The BMW wasn't right for us. While I made the right decision with a BMW, my wife always wanted a Jag S-TYPE (Lincoln LS - upgraded).

I bit and traded the 525i on a 2004 S-TYPE 3.0 V6. It was Platinum (silver) on charcoal. I surprised her on XMAS of 04. I Surprised her on her BDAY of 03 with the E39. She wanted the Jag. Plain and simple. It was the look of the car that sold her on it. I bought low and sold high on the 5. I bought really low on the leftover 04 S-TYPE. It was almost a break-even and I drove the 5 for free .

We swap cars back and forth and I always have to have a BMW in the garage - thus the E91. As you know I've owned about 12 BMW's of various models and designations. Simply put, I'm a BMW guy. My wife in terms of cars lets me mess around and do what I want to do as I don't gamble or golf. She knows that cars are my affordable hobby.

She was never so upset as when I sold the S-TYPE out from under her. Any previous car was met with zero consternation. I was looking to replace the V6 S-TYPE with a BMW but realized that this would not work. Therefore I went on the manhunt for a Jaguar that would satisfy me performance-wise and satisfy her for looks. Thus the S-TYPE R.

It's no M5. It was Ford Motor Company's best attempt. I can't afford a new M5, nor can I afford a nice certified 2003 E39 M5 with low mileage. You are correct on all counts in terms of value. I can, however, afford a wanna be M5 with looks that satisfy the wife for short money. I figure that the vast majority of depreciation has been take on this S-TYPE and I won't get burned too badly if I decide to flip it.

Maybe I'm wrong; but to move from a V6 dog to a blown V8 for short money seems like a no brainer - especially given the Select Edition warranty.

BTW- I will be contacting you once again for E39 Bluetooth information. We are having issues with my mother's MY03 525i .

Last time I buy new. I'm talking the E91 Touring. Had to do it - new car...needed something wagon-like. From now on I'm going low mileage Certified Pre-Owned. Regardless of the program. I would much rather be driving something nice and owning it after someone took the depreciation hit rather than leasing or financing a brand new car. The warranty and inspection process however is crucial.
