1080 miles and what I believe is the same noise occasionally happening at idle. goes away when I depress clutch. Then again I have lots of fun noises coming from the transmission when disengaging gears (like second) (the rattle some others have noted). My opinion is that these are normal sounds for this car. I'll hold on to that opinion until I'm out of warranty, at least.

Ya similar to that. It's the slower oscillating noise in the video that's almost like a thumping on a drum.

I posted in this thread earlier that my car does not make this noise.. However, after closer inspection it DOES. I don't like it... Can you take a picture and circle where it is coming from?

Oh snap. Is it as loud as mine? The new car at the dealer w/ 9 miles on it wasn't nearly as audible as mine is. I haven't found what is making the noise. Those pictures were to show the strut bar and that it's probably not plastic hitting it making the noise. I believe Scoty also confirmed it wasn't and the noise went away after his 1.2k service.

Is yours pretty loud? I can hear it with music off when I'm in the cabin and windows up.

Ok sounds good. I was in for my first service and it's the 2nd time I pointed out the noise. The service team is aware of it now, but they said to just keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. My car hasn't thrown any fault codes yet so I'll wait to put some more miles on it or for more people to complain about it. Thanks!

Ya it's not the tapping I'm worried about. It's that other drum like thumping noise. Be sure to use headphones when you listen to those vids otherwise you might not be able to hear it.

Has it gotten any worse or stayed about the same since you first noticed it?

I also sent an email to BMW NA and supposedly he forwarded my videos to some techs, but I never heard back.

Throw Out Bearing
At least thats what it was called a looong time ago. I read this post long before I even bought my car. I heard this noise on my vert M3 last week. I think its the same, or quite similar. When at idle, with the car in neutral, and foot off the clutch. When I depress the clutch it goes away. Thinking about calling it in for CYA should something happen in the future.
Can anyone confirm the noise with or without the clutch in/out ? |

I'd try, but I have MDCT. I now have about 2.2k miles and the noise is a little better, but I think it's just because the engine noise got louder. It's definitely still there. I'll wait for 3k miles to gripe to the dealer about it again.
