2011 Model Year M3 question
Looking at a 2011 e92 as an upgrade. Few questions for the model year experts out there.
The car was first sold in Jan-Feb of 2011. Does that mean it should be a 2011.5 model with combox, Bluetooth streaming and album cover info? It has nav. If the car has EDC button that means it should have competition package? I know the wheels would also give it sea but I'm wondering if EDC only came with the Competition Package for 2011MY. Thanks.

Yes, Jan-Feb 2011 build is a 2011.5. The infamous 2011.5 began with Sept 2010 production and went until March (I think) 2011 when the 2011.75 with BMW Apps began production.
I think the EDC or at least some version of it was available on non-competition pkg cars. But I can't recall for sure, search or someone else will have to confirm. Edit: The 2011.5 w/ Competition pkg has three modes for EDC; Comfort, Normal and Sport. The previous EDC only offered two modes as I recall. On my car with Comp. pkg., no lights on the button = Comfort mode, one light = Normal mode and two lights = Sport mode.

As mentioned the EDC was included in the Comp package or as a stand-alone option (that is how I ordered mine). When it was first sold does not indicate the actual production date, other than obviously it wasn't built after that date but it could have been built a few months prior to first sold or in service date. You really need to know the date of production and if you have the VIN, I think a dealer can tell you what came on the car originally. |

Good point! I simply read first sold as the build date. You need to know the actual build date. There is a small plate inside the drivers door which shows the build date....

Both Comp and non-comp cars have all 3 modes. EDC could be equiped on non-comp cars. The only difference is that Competition package EDC is fully adaptive in all three modes whereas the non-comp is only adaptive in standard and comfort, Sport is a fixed value.

^^ Thanks for correcting me! Just couldn't recall the details on the non-ZCP EDC...
