I just used that listing as a price estimate, not fond of the color... I see them a lot in Germany and like them quite a bit...

It's an open thread to any open suggestions. I have had no particular one in interest so far, but want to get a feel for all the different models available in that price-range. I know some of you suggested to divide it and buy two cars for practicality, but the 3 sedan would become the daily driver, and I was hoping for more of a "weekend-esque" car, but being able to take it to the grocery store might also be a plus (maybe).

So far I've been thinking about:

Nissan GTR (might have to buy a coffin as well)
BMW F10 M5
2012 Benz CLS (Damn it looks so good!!)

Car that I actually WANT:

Audi R8
Maserati GT
Bentley Continental

But they're such impractical cars

If your spending 100K it better be exactly what you want. Don't blow that much and come home not 100% satisfied. You might as well get a used R8 etc or wait until you can buy one new.

seems silly to spend so much and not get exactly what you want especially seeing as you have said you only need it as a weekend car.

the choice is simple, get something you love.

I was shocked when I visited friends in Brizzy. My $20k base Accord was like $42k there. Other than that and a few other government intrusions, Australia is fantastic. I'd live there

OP: It depends what your priorities are. Speed? Comfort? Mpg? Cargo room?

Me? I'd probably not blow it on one car. I'd get an SUV for biking, skiing and camping (e.g. X3, Tahoe, Outback, RAV4) depending on your performance/room/mpg requirements. Then I'd get a fun car. Elise, Corvette, Boxster, 335i.
E92 M3 rrp is $190,000 over here.

M5 will be in the mid $200K's.....

Don't get me wrong, love the country, wouldn't live anywhere else. But we pay a fortune for cars due to taxation. Probably the only negative with our country is the amount of tax we pay - but at the same time, most of us don't realize how good we have it over here....

Wait for a slightly used W218 CLS63 (you can get it in a manual, believe it or not).

If you dont mind pretty bad fuel mileage, a Maserati Granturismo is hard to beat for pure sex appeal and sound. For a more edge-of-your-seat drive, go GT-R or 997TT. If a super-sedan is your fancy, then F10 M5 or it's AMG equivalent. But honestly, I'd get the Maserati over all of them. It's probably the best looking car you can buy right now IMHO, and has a Ferrari V8. Seats 4 decently, available in auto or automanual.

Just saw your post saying you wanted a GT. I can't attest to their reliability but I did know a guy who owned a Bentley Conti. Coupe and never had issues with it. I drove it a few times, it's smooth, but hauls the weight around well. However, it's not a thriller.

Just curious if you're actually shopping or if this is just a hypothetical?

Are you planning on buying this car in Canada or bringing it up here?

Cross the F10 M5 off for at least another couple of years. It will be $120Kish up here new and it isn't available up here until next fall. Even if you found one used in the US next summer tack on 5% GST, 7% PST (assuming the HST is out by then) and then add the dollar differential as the CDN $ will hopefully sit around 0.95 by then. You then get to add 6.1% onto that total for duty.

Ditto for the CLS63 that just arrived up here.

The limited inventory on used, high end luxury vehicles up here will limit your options. Anything in the $80K range used in the US is going to end up right around $100K CDN.

Lightly used, in warranty X5M would be a solid choice.

It's a real question but the purchase timeframe is anywhere from now until next summer's start. I was looking for a possible purchase from the states and importing it up to Canada. I'd maybe bypass that Canadian currency convertion too, since the amount would be available in us funds anyways.

FYI, you pay the GST, P/HST and Duty based on the current dollar conversion to CDN funds. So if the dollar is only at 0.95 you're paying the taxes/duty on 105% of the US purchase price (ie. If the car is purchased for $80K US, you're paying the taxes on the $84K CDN value regarless of how u paid for it....sucks...I know ).

I wouldn't be converting the CDN to US, I'd be making the money in US anyways. No conversion I think that's what you meant?
