F-types to get AWD and Manual transmission for MY16?

http://www.6speedonline.com/articles...-weve-wanting/
video of the manual on the nurburgring

I went to the Jag dealership today to see the F-type coupe in person and it looks absolutely great. I mentioned to the dealer what a shame it was that the car wasn't offered in a manual. Long story short, he told me that the dealership (Alpine Jag in Florida) was just told that they should be expecting an announcement sometime soon saying that the 2016 models available next summer will also be offered with the options to have manual transmission and AWD. Now i don't care much for AWD, but 550 horses hooked up to a manual transmission in a coupe sounds like a lot of fun.

AWD is truly game-changing--but unfortunately they'll balloon up to ~4100#... Yikes

AWD and a MT would make it an amazing all-season DD. I think it'll be a huge success.

When is the last time a Jag had a manual? Seems unlikely, but would be sweet.

Manual would be good for this car. AWD would be just dumb. This isn't a DD car or a car people will go rallying with or drive over a mountain of snow in the winter. Nor will it be a performance AWD like a 911 Turbo or GTR that will make the car put in phenomenal lap times.

i really only want AWD in very powerful cars like GTR or 911 turbo. AWD will slow this car down.

Manual gearbox in the F-type with over 500hp would put the car ahead of the Vantage GT for me as my next car. Agree that this is just not the type of car for AWD. This isn't a purely "numbers" car, there is passion, emotion and subjective qualities to be enjoyed.

I have a 2015 F-Type V8 S (Roadster) and I do not miss the manual transmission. I love the RWD. This car is a hooligan and will try to kill you

I don't see a manual transmission Jag happening. There aren't enough people who want a MT to justify the cost of certifying it in the US.

I have a feeling Jag is going to give in and offer a manual...but will the manual be any good...Even in Jag's hey day I can't recall anyone saying what a pleasure they had rowing gears in those cars. I hope it's terrific because that car is MIND BLOWING.

For a daily driver, I would take an automatic, irrespective of the mechanism, but for a fun play toy, which the Jag is, manual gearbox is a must for me.

It's pure speculation and I'd bet a dollar neither comes true. I have never heard even a rumor of this up until you wrote that. Not a single automotive news site has made any mention of it, and those places know way more than some of the employees.

Have you driven anything with the ZF 8-speed? It's a phenomenal transmission. I love rowing my own gears, but if a fun car/toy only came with the ZF I would not rule it out at all.

There's a link a few posts up to Jalopnik reporting the same rumor. Here's a link to C&D's blog with the same rumor:

It has nothing to do with the transmission, it is purely the fun of rowing your gears, using a clutch, etc. These physical actions are enjoyable and rewarding to me.

As I said, for a daily driver, I wouldn't care, but for a car that is purely a pleasure purchase, it does. I would still consider that car without a manual, but now that Aston Martin is coming out with the Vantage GT which is in a similar price class and is available with a manual gearbox, I will more likely go that route.

I am so skeptical about that new GT. Such a huge price drop, not sure if its even a good though.

I had the pleasure of test driving the new F-Type R last week and let me tell you...
This car is AMAZING!!! Dat A$$ makes this the best looking car in the road.
Very very fast and it cornered as good or better than my M.
It went to the top of the list for my next car, even over the R8...
