Widest tires possible on stock 18's?

This may have been covered before but I searched a whole bunch and did not find the info I need.

On stock 18's on the E90 M3, I know the fronts are 18x8.5 and rears are 18x9.5.

Will I be able to safely squeeze a 285/30/18 in the REAR and a 245/35/18 in the FRONT on these stock wheels?

Thanks!

no 285s should go on at least a 10 inch wide wheel. 275 is the MAX you could go on a 9.5 inch wheel. you can put 245s on the front though.

Different tire brands have different dimensions as well. If your particular brand runs big, your 285s definitely won't fit.

FYI, the car comes with 245's up front.

Depends on brand. I was looking at it from a Autocross perspective where you have to use stock sized wheels or get classed even worse than SS (Z06 & Elise territory).

Hoosier A6's do have a 295/30r18 that fits a 9.5"-11" wheel. Unfortunately, they don't have anything wider from the front than stock where I think I'd benefit more from a wider tire... I've been wondering if you could shoehorn a 275/35/18 onto the front since it fits a 9-11" wheel and I've known guys to slap wider tires onto smaller wheels before, but I'm not the type to spend that kind of money on "what if's"... and figure out offsets to avoid rubbing unpleasantries.

Yes its a tricky one.

The tire im referring to is a hoosier 285/30/18 for the rear, trying to squeeze that on the 9.5 inch wheel... think its a risk?

i put 245s on a 8 inch wheel and 275 on a 9 inch wheel and it was a big mistake. car feels like marshmallows. stick with the proper sizes or bump it up to a 275. the 285 would fit and handling would be better in long sweeps but the in tight corners it would be bouncy and vague.

Current model M5 and M6 has 255 tires on 8.5 front, and 285 on 9.5 rear.
