In the past 2+ years I've been in Germany, I've only seen one other AW E9x. If I couldn't have AW, SSII would be a good choice. I'd order AW again - No sunroof.

Here's a picture of Silverstone on a clear sunny day
When I decided I was getting an M3, I was hell-bent on silver (search my previous threads/posts). Then I learned it had a bluish tint to it. After looking at internet pictures, I finally saw it in person on the M3. Here is a picture that I took on a clear sunny day in Houston Texas. Frankly, and no offense to Silverstone owners because it's still a nice car, I was turned off by the bluish tint.
I then considered black, white, and space gray. My opinion is to go with Alpine White. For white, black or dark gray aftermarket wheels look phenomenal in pictures. I can't imagine how unbelievable it would look in person, since pictures never do anything justice. Search pictures on this forum for white with black wheels. May I suggest black? Don't listen to any black naysayers on these boards who are or would be too lazy to wash their beautiful new BMW sports cars. Last edited by RogEphedra; 11-07-2009 at 07:46 AM.. I have SSII and would get it again in a minute. I had a choice between AW and SSII when I purchased and was 99% in favour of the AW until I saw the SSII in person and the choice was clear for me. I like the chameleon effect of the color in different lighting situations and it does stay clean looking even when moderately dirty. That and the exclusivity of it make it the choice for me.
I haven't seen another one in my area. All the others here in RI, USA that I've seen are AW with one SG exception (another color I like BTW). |

I have had 3 E90 M3s (long story). The colors I had were Sparkling Graphite, SSII and now Space Gray. Out of the 3, Space Gray is my favorite matched with a fox red interior. It may seem boring to some people but the red I think adds flavor. The SSII to me look great in some conditions. But in others it definitely looked green. Especially once you saw the light reflect just right, you will not stop seeing green from that point forward. But I am also very picky when it comes to color so take that with a grain of salt. If SSII did had hints of blue instead of green, then that would be a winner for me. But I could not stand the green I saw under certain lighting conditions. I had the SSII for almost 7 months.

I have SSII and I will still choose it again. Of all the cars that I bought, this color is the one that got a lot of compliments. Plus of course, SSII is M exclusive.

SSII is nice, but if you haven't seen it yourself yet, I would try and I find one before you make a decision. SSII definitely has a blue, sometimes greenish tint to it in certain lighting conditions. Some like that, others don't. Because of the blue/green tint, I would also avoid Fox Red interior with SSII.

May I introduce another colour. Moonstone. It may be the ideal compromise between AW and SSII. Booforty (on your side of the pond may be in or near your neck of the woods) has a SSII E92 M3. Check his posts. He has also posted pics (really good pics) of his car with a Moonstone E92 M3 beside it. Maybe you can arrange to see both and an AW all together in person and decide then. Right now I am still torn.

I have a e92 SSII and I get compliments very often about the color of my car something that I did not get when I owned a plain white g37 or a plain silver audi TT, this color is unique in its own way... Its not silver, its not blue it has so many shades and it just jumps out and highlights the design of the car very well and as an added plus its an M exclusive color which sets it apart even more.

OP. SSII is not the same as 99% of silver out there. Most of the time it is a color of it own. There is no way you can mistake this for another silver car. They are that different.
I encourage you to see AW and SSII in person under different lightning consider. It is nice an day IMO. Just look at OckEME3 pic, that is amazing. The line of the car blend in too much with AW...e.g hard to see the bulge if you view the car from top. SSII shows the bulge very clearly. I wouldn't pay a few grands extra for moonstone which is too similar to SSII. There is no point to waste money. Oh don't forget to check out this thread. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89523 i would SSII/silver extended. I saw foxred in real life and didn't like it up close. ALthough from far away, SSII/fox red looks good. |

Thanks for the compliment graider.
OP, like graider said, under different lighting the color varies, which makes SSII unique IMHO. I've had a couple experiences with people where some girl gave me a ride to my car, as we approached my car I told her to slow down and stop where the silver car was parked. She stops and then she tells me, "that's not a silver car, it's blue" fine whatever I wasn't going to argue with her. On a different occasion another friend drove me to my car and he thought it was blue. My point is, go look at it in person and it might help you with your decision, I know it helped me. I was also contemplating AW/FR. I would do it all over again! Good luck Quote:

NugeMobile is getting another twin -- just ordered my SSII/Extended Red Fox sedan today. It replaces a string of AW Bimmers: E92 335, Z4M and E39 M5.
AW is great for low-light (cloudy) conditions but does mask surface treatment (eg., flame surfacing on Z4M). When it's truly clean, it looks it; but as a non-metallic it will show surface scratches more readily. Silver is more forgiving, in my recent experience. |

You live in Cali, he lives in London; the situation may be very different. This forum does have a lot of AW. But personally, in my city, I have seen very few AWs. Look at some of the pictures from Toronto meets, there isnt even ONE AW in the pics.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies - really appreciate it. It was very interesting to read all the responses and to be honest I never thought that most of the replies would be in favour of SS2 since AW was so popular. I will definately go and see both colours in person. The pictures of the cars posted on this thread look amazing - congratulations and thanks for sharing. Cheers. |

For starters, is there anything that does show on the color white? I mean, it's white for gods sake, unless you spill ketchup or red wine on it, you're good. Secondly, SSII too conservative and white more thrilling? Is there anything more basic than white? That being said I would say SSII just becuase it seems like every other E92 I see is AW. Good luck.
