M Options questions

I am still kicking around the idea of ordering a new e92 M3. If I decide to order it will be after the 09's are available. I have a few questions I am hoping those of you who have ordered these options can give your impressions.


1. Enhanced premium sound = $1900

2. M Double-clutch Transmission = $2700. I love MT, so to me the DCT is a big change.

3. Color questions

Melbourn Red Metallic

Alpine White

Space gray Metallic.

I am looking for an exterior color that helps the Carbon Fiber roof stand out.

Any help with the above questions would be great.

I tend to agree with you. AW looks the overall best with the black roof, and I am quite sure it will be the number 1 color choice of the E92 M3

Red is my favorite color, however I currently have the red 335i, and the Space Gray is starting to catch my eye. I am not sure if I have seen the Space Gray in person or not.

Go with the Melbourne Red, if you go with Alpine White or Space Gray, you'll have to change your username, it will be a huge mess.

IMO the enhanced sound is overrated. M-DCT FTW is all i have to say.

And as for color, thats a decision up to you.

I haven't heard the non-enhanced sound system yet. For the money, I thought when I purchase my E90, I would rather invest in an aftermarket surround system. I know it will be more $$$$, but better quality overall.

If i were 3-4 years younger I would want to do sound system upgrades like huge subwoofers and that junk, but im over with that phase.

I heard the enchanced/non back to back and the difference is negligible IMO. The equalizer with the enhanced is neat though.

Thanks for the comments on the enhanced system. The OEM Logic 7 in my 335i is great. If the standard system sounds as good that will be good enough for me.

09s can be ordered now and are currently in production. Sound, DCT and looks of colors IRL are going to be tough to find an opinion here that matches your exact priorities and taste. Hopefully, there are cars on the ground that you can see/experience in your vicinity which will help you make your decisions.

dude get silver stone i get so many compliments on that color dude even when its dirty from the rain..ppl are like o i love this color and what color is that and so on..i had the 335 logic 7 is great but dont get the standard 10 speaker set dude..trust me i spent 2 hours along listening to the standard and the enhanced the standard is a step down from logic 7 but enhanced is 1 notch or the same as logic 7 so dont down grade dude!!..you will regret it. i had a auto 335 it was cool but i love the mt..this things is emotioanal man!!!

Correct.

To the OP, if you like red and you want contrast, the Melbourne Red really pops with the CF roof. Of the colors you mentioned, that would seem to be the best choice for you, but it's your call. You may also want to take a look at Interlagos Blue. I never considered it until I saw it in person. I changed the color of my order to IB on the spot.

I've heard a number of comments that the enhanced premium sound is negligibly better than the base system. FifthStreetz aside, I would bet that most who say that haven't taken a good amount of time to play with the equalizer that comes with the premium sound system. After I fiddled with it for about 15 minutes, I thought it sounded noticeably better. I think once the speakers are broken in, the difference will be even more noticeable.

Like you, I love MT, and the one in the M3 is a good one. I struggled with the choice between that and the DCT for awhile, but ultimately chose the 6MT. Having since driven the DCT, I'm pleased with my decision. However, there are many advantages to the DCT, so make sure you drive both before deciding.

Would you recommend any aftermarket subwoofers for the E9X? I enjoyed the sound quality of the upgraded system in the E46 ///M3, but I find that the system in the current car leaves more to be desired.

IMO space gray is a little boring, white is sooo popular so you should get the red, and do the red/black theme!!

I have 6MT and love it. Pure driver engagement and great fun on track days.

Have you considered Silverstone II? The c/f roof stands out a mile and its different to AW which everyone has!

Yes, but I'd keep it small and sharp. I'd also want to keep it fairly close to stock, which would mean shallow-mount subs. The Earthquake SWS-8 are pretty much drop-in replacements, and are a decent upgrade from the OEM Earthquakes. I'd also upgrade the amp to the subs. That should improve the biggest weakness of the system, which is the low end. If you want to do more than that, don't bother with the enhanced premium sound. I've upgraded the audio system in every single car/truck I've owned myself, and I'm done with that. I don't have the time these days.

I have the Enhanced Audio - not sure it's worth the $1900.

I have the 6MT and I've never driven the DCT, but I've heard very good things about it.

I have the basic radio package. It isn't bad. It beats alot of factory installed systems that I've had in the past. I haven't heard the enhanced package but I'm sure it's a lot better. For my purposes, I'd rather keep the radio down low and listen to the motor revving. It's addictive.

How much are the SWS-8 speakers?
