Sounds as if you need to consider applying the old principal - "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

Suggestion: buy one of these: http://www.rhinoshelters.com/5-instant-garages, park the old e90 in it and walk away from it for a week or so. When you finally get back to it and unzip the door, the sight should reignite that old spark - so to speak.
It works for me.

Seriously, OP. Get her to the track. At very least do it once before you make your decision to keep the car or not.

I'm lucky to have a local track, just about an hour away, but I also drove ~5 hours each way to get to Motorsport Ranch outside of Fort Worth last month. So worth the time...

I hear you about the wife and kids (got three now - my youngest is just 5 months). If you don't do this already, being good about helping with the kids so she can go out with the girls from time to time goes a long way in making her okay with my track excursions and road trip weekends with the guys.

Went with the Dark side, C63 route, but decided to return to the Force. Maybe it will be different if I got the C63 BS.

I agree with the fact that I might have fun at the track. Up until this point, my car is 100% used on the street. That being said.. think I'm just looking for more power which I can't get outta this car unless i'm looking to spend.

C63 is on the list.

I do have to admit, as someone who DD's their C63 BS... there's nothing quite like it.

Can't get one new anymore, but the 2014 C63 "507 Edition" is mostly the same flavor, minus some weight savings and the wider wide-body kit.

(Much love for M3's though. So, I don't consider myself on the dark side of the Force...)

Don't fall for the power trap. Accept the fact that no amount of power will be enough. The M3 has plenty of power, even in stock form. If you had a 200hp car and said you needed more power, that's different, but at this overall power level, start looking at other subjective factors.

No matter how fast your car is, if you drive it enough, your brain adapts to the speed sensation and it won't feel as fast. This is a physiologic fact.

Do this:

Rent a base model Civic, Corolla, etc for a month. Do not drive your M3 during this time. Then, go back to your M3. Let's see how you feel then.

I was on track this last weekend and that was making me seriously depressed. Every time I looked in my mirror either an S2000, miata, or Corvette was waiting for their point by. Next time I'm gonna run in the slow group.

All cars become boring on the street. Regardless of power, accelerating in a straight line gets old after awhile. The track is where you realize that your car has a little too much power for your driving skill level and that feeling of wanting something else sort of goes away. When I feel like I'm getting bored with my car, it just tells me I need to get back out on the track.

Hmmm, very interesting theory. May need to try this, hopefully before I sell my M3.

Pfffft! I wish this applied to bike riders on the track. Liter bike riders who park it in corners don't usually resort to riding a 600 when they realize that they are less skilled than their bikes make them seem (..when they are riding in a straight line). I wish they would!

First world problems of course... but nothing wrong with that.

I try to focus on my current car and know that I'm pretty lucky to be able to afford it. I'm currently looking at the M3 and although I don't have one, I can see how any car can get boring.

It's really a matter of finances. If you had unlimited cash, you could get anything at anytime without batting an eye.

I fell to the trap on the C63 power and exhaust note. It was an expensive mistake that I sold it after 9 months. I am now awaiting for my re-delivery of my M3.

DO NOT SELL IT without taking it out on a racetrack just once!

Being passed by a $4500 110hp Miata in your $75,000 400-hp German behemoth is an experience not to be missed.

Instead of being bored, you'll spend your days wondering about how to unbolt the seats, what's the lightest and most uncomfortable seat to replace it with, camber, lightweight wheels and tires, whether to disable traction control, and of course a set of track brakes that won't melt by the 3rd session.

You have never lived until you've done 20 white-knuckle laps at Laguna Seca (or its local equivalent) while being hounded by little Japanese-made fleas.

Once you get your times under 1:45, those pesky spec miatas start to leave you alone.

I've been meaning to ask you about that ...

My best was 1:53 so far and I melted the stock brakes in the process.
