3/4" drive breaker bar makes a 1/2" drive ratchet look puny.

Just leaned on it and it swung downwards.

Crank bolt on the way out

My holding mechanism. I threaded a couple of flywheel mounting bolts in and they interfered with the mounting bolts of the engine stand arms, which was good enough to counter the force applied to the front of the crank.

Cleaned this up and replaced the o-ring, which had turned into plastic. This part seems to be neglected on most M20s that I've seen.

Oil filter housing. Completely disassembled, new oil filter and seals installed. Thick crust of oil+dirt mostly removed.

Front lower timing cover. Water pump out and gasket soaked in gasket remover. The crankshaft oil seal has a obvious leak.

Cleaned up and reinstalled with a new cover gasket and new oil seals. The oil pan gasket mates with this cover and pieces of it just flaked off when the cover was removed. No wonder there's yellow sealant all over the front. That's next on the list...

Hahaha, it's disgusting. I've gone through a roll of shop towels already.

DUDE, you should see what's on the engine coming out of your. I can't even find the bolt heads because the grease is so thick.

i dunno but they said that out of the 5 computers only 2 of them were awake. I'm sure the battery had died at one point while it was in the garage.

if the battery is dead, you have to drive the car for 100 miles before smogging the car

Not yet. I've been holding off on pulling it out because I need the space to work on the new motor. I'll be finishing the last few o-rings and things this week. Plan is to pull the old motor on Saturday, then swap over things like water pump, injectors, and thermostat. Then put the replacement in on Sunday.

She misunderstood. Not computers - OBD2 readiness monitors that the ECU needs to set. She needs to drive cycle it. You can google the BMW drive cycle procedure and tell her to follow that.

Cool. She can have the readiness monitor status checked with just about any off-the-shelf OBD2 reader before going in for the smog check.
