Dealer hasn't seen the car and offered $45K and said even if they had seen it I would be lucky to top $50K. It is worth much more than that.

yeah that would sound about right - still disappointing though. used e46 M3's have dropped in value massively the last couple of years. Eventually I'll sell mine privately - Its always annoying though the amount of test pilots when selling a car like this.

50k for a e46M3! used. thats a pretty good price way more then i would have guessed. i figured they would offer you in the 20's for a e46 maybe low 30's if your lucky. This is good to know!

Yes! in Australia we pay stupid prices for example a new e92 M3 is roughly $165,000 USD. Its a joke!

I was looking at a 7.1 GT3 a few weeks ago and they quoted me $40k for my M. My car is a 2008 e92 AW/black and fully loaded, however, I've put 32k miles on the clock, with numerous track days. At that price, I'd rather wait a few years to pick up my dream car and keep the M3 as a DD, a job that it performs sooooooooooo well.

I agree. I reckon the GTR does hold its prices slightly better than the M3.

Compare a 2002 E46 M3 to a 2002 R34 GTR for example.

Considering this is in the "Australian" section of the forum, yeah, I can see how you arrived at that conclusion.

Ok I'll start. I was told of an unsubstantiated trade-in offer for an 07 E92 of $90,000 in WA. Unfortunately it's a friend-of-a-friend scenario so who knows.

The dealer is always going to screw you with a sh*tty trade in offer. My comment is that if that reflects the true market value of an E9x M3 then the new cars are grossly overpriced.

However, when you look at carsales.com.au and the used section on bmw.com.au you see dealers selling from $139k.

Don't give them the opportunity of leveraging obscene margins on your misfortune...sell privately!

Yes I totally agree. I have an E46 for sale and was offered 15-20K below private sale price which I thought was slightly obscene. They knew I was looking for a E92 M3 or possible E60 M5, so I said ok, if you are offering me that for mine, you should be able to offer me an M3 or M5 as traded for $90K using your used car value matrix. Needless to say they didn't agree.

I guess they do get burnt sometimes. They had an 06 E60 M5 (admittedly it had 80k on the clock). They started at $139k but it eventually went for $89k after being on the floor for about 3 months.

Without knowing anything about that, IMO that would be all its worth. My guess is that they over traded it to get the sale originally.

Trying to sell that for $139k is highway robbery, they deserve to get burnt.
