M3 or 1M??

Can anyone talk me out of a 1M? I am really just not sure what I want. I can only afford about $52k so thats a new 1M or a gently used M3 sedan. I have an x3 and an x5 so space is not a concern, I am looking for the best driving experience.. Can the M3 forum help me?

I didn't need the space, but I got the E90 and I'm very happy with my decision. How much room are you really giving up going from E90 to E92? I'm sure it's nothing major, and my car will never see 5 passengers anyway. I'd go for the 1M as I do prefer new cars, plus it may retain it's value better in the coming years. Now if money were no object I'd definitely go for the M3, could be one of the last, if not THE last NA car from the M Division in a very long time.

I would do a used m3 over a new 1m anytime, especially if you get a cpo on the m3.

A used M3 gets my vote any day of the week.
+1.

Come on now, 1M is not even considered as a real M car by many. If you don't want M3, look into Z4 M Coupe. You can find one for 30-35k$, and spend the rest for a supercharger and a BBK.

Dude, come on! There is absolutely no comparison!! 1M is just ugly, have you seen its picture beside the M3? I got a CPO M3 and I just LOVE it! Love to rev the engine and hear the beast. If you get the 1M, you will definitely regret it. By the way, if you need 2 doors, why not the E92 M3?

2009-2010 used M3 over a new 1M.

From all indications, the 1M will be using the same motor from the 335is/Z4 sDrive35is. If so, that motor just doesn't have a nice, strong hard pull to redline as on an M3. It's has a very nice strong torquey feel in my 335is - especially with the 370 ft/lb of torque in overboost mode, but it quickly loses steam past about 5.5K-6K RPM. I think I'd be disappointed in an M-car that doesn't pull hard to redline.

for me it would be a tough decision bc no one has really driven the car or seen it in person. For me i would have to wait till the 1M comes in drive it walk it over and then i would be able to make my decision.

I'd take a used M3 over a 1m too.

I'd even consider an e46 M3 or a Z4M over a 1M as well.

If you're considering the 1M I hope you like Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, or Valencia Orange Metallic. I'm sure this car will have a big following. Are there any allocations remaining? Don't expect to just find one sitting on the lot.

yeah because a tarted up 3 series is SOOOOOOoooooo MANLY.

PLEASE.... I understand this is M3post... so the bias is going to be pretty strong but really the only real difference between the cars is the engine. Essentially with a 1M you get everything the M3 has (except for the v8), with less weight for significantly cheaper than an m3.

My vote is 1M.

BTW anyone who says the 1M is a "real" M car is an idiot.

I'd take an M3 any day of the week.

1M is just a tuned 135 with M badges, suspension, ECU, etc. It's a 135is in essence with M branding. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it's not a true M Car like the M3 is. I'm not a fan of the 1-series styling either although the 1M looks very nice compared to the regular 1-series.

I think you're under explaining what BMW did with the 1 series to make the 1M. They beefed up quite a bit and really enhanced the balance. To beat one, you'd have to drive your M3 at ten-tenths and you better pray you're a better driver than the other guy (or girl). Don't underestimate it. Two things for sure, it's going to be rare to see, and it'll be a lot of car for the money.

On the M3 forums you will be told to get an M3.

On the 1-series board you will be told to get a 1M.

On the C63 forums you will be told to get off the board with this BMW stuff.

On the Good Housekeeping forums you will asked if 1M will keep cakes from rising.

^^^This!

The 1M is an attractive car to me, especially in the Valencia Orange color scheme. I was considering the same thing about a month ago. I personally find all of the negative comments about the 1M to be rather silly. We're all driving "tarted up" versions of an X-series car, so that's a moot argument. I can't wait for some of the 1Addicts to pick up the car.

I agree!! I don't think that the 1M will shabby performance wise.
