Is competition package worth it?

Trying to spec new M3. Thinking of sticking with 18" wheels and getting EDC. 19" look somewhat better but the roads are not great where I live so I like the idea of higher profile tires. Same deal for lowered suspension - not very practical. No intention of really racing - maybe a trip to track once a year.

Any thoughts? Any reasons I should just get competition package?

Thank you

get it only for aesthetics. does nothing you would miss otherwise. i really don't like how the 18's look especially compared to the competition package wheels. maybe i prefer a firmer ride but I have driven the car on both a standard M3 on 18's and a comp package M3 on 19's on really bad italian roads and did not feel it was any harsher.

the lowered suspension is very subtle change. No change required to navigate the car around cities and parking decks in europe.

Doesn't sound like you want to mod the suspension or wheels given your comments. If you're keeping the car relatively OEM / stock the Comp. Pk. is worth it for what you get (there's literature on BMW's site), and it will be great on the track once a year. The 19s on the Comp Pk. are plenty comfortable on "comfort" mode, no problem there.

If you are planning to change wheels, get coilovers or your own springs, and make the car more track focused, Comp Pk. is useless.

I got it because I thought it looked better. I caught the mod bug and have replaced everything. Just my shared experience.

OP: based on your comments, I would get it.

Yes it is. It just makes the M3 that more special. The 19" wheels, lower ride height and the EDC just sets it apart from the "other" M3.

I'm pretty much an OEM guy and really don't care to go down the "modding road". There's nothing wrong with mods. I personally feel my 2013 M3 has more capabilities for non track use than I already need and I don't want to start voiding my 4 year warranties experimenting with a great car as is.

If I had more money for mods plus the costs of buying my new M3, I seriously would have just purchased a Porsche 911 S or GTR3. What's the point modding to try to get to the next level? Just go to the next level which is where some of us eventually end up once we get over our M3 lust.

Get ZCP, trust me, it's waaaaay better; you DON'T want the civic M3 ... they're sooooo much more of a loser's car.

this makes no sense unless you are talking about 40k or more in mods.

I switched out my stock 18" 219s for the 19" 359 zcps and have not noticed a change in ride comfort. I believe the roads I drive on regularly would be considered "harsh." I really really really like the looks of the zcp wheels.

The package is $2500, you could sell the ZCP wheels & tires for $2500 easily. EDC is $1000 option... I guess if you are really set on the 18" 219s, I wouldn't get it.

And it adds 50 horses as well.

OP, IMHO it is only worthy if you like the looks of it (dropped) and the wheels. But that's it. I have it, and yes, to "ME" it was worthy.

What makes sense to one individual compared to another is dependent on many factors such as objective and amount of money willing to spend to achieve said objective.

You can't just throw out a number that make sense for everybody.

Time for another post!

the response was to this post

"If I had more money for mods plus the costs of buying my new M3, I seriously would have just purchased a Porsche 911 S or GTR3."

which implies i dont know, 40-80g of mods. see the comparison? 75 + 40 = 911s. much more for a gt3

get me?

Either way you are going to score with a new m3, its an awesome car. however I am a firm believer in getting as many options as your budget lets you bc cars that are loaded are always more sought after then the cars that are less optioned. Thats just my 2 cents.

+1
Just get the comp package. You can easily get your money back if you sell the zcp wheels.

if you like the wheels, get the ZCP package. The wheels/tires package alone would cost you $3000 if you buy it after the fact.

If you're doing major suspension and wheel mods, then it's a waste of money. If you really don't give a crap about the wheels or most options on an M3, then buy a stripper.
