Finally, it's up to BMW in terms of what they decide to do with your "cash" (aka MSD's) sitting in their account at lease-end. They can easily charge you for whatever they see fit, whether damage, repairs, collisions, etc. You're not at an advantage. You're never at an advantage by giving someone else your money to "hold."

It's business 101 and goes along with the purest and simplest rules of investing.

Exactly, if the 7000 are so dear to you, then having them tied up for 2 or 3 years is not ideal in case you might need it on a short notice and you shouldn't do it. If low yielding CDs gave me 10% return tax free, I'd definitely put it into a CD then. And by the way, if you don't know what will happen in 2 weeks perhaps you shouldn't lease a car at all - what if you become unemployed, even a 500/mo low lease payment with 0 upfront fee might become an unbearable burden with no steady income suddenly?

Wait a second, initially you were saying that MSDs are lost if the car is totaled which was a blatant lie, now you have modified your stance to the tune that BMW will take your cash for repairs? Excuse me but if the vehicle is damaged beyond normal wear and tear, I'd expect BMW to want to repair it and you will have to foot the bill, whether you have put MSDs or not. Are you saying that BMW will look the other way if your windshield is cracked and not charge you just because you didn't put an MSD or two vs. demanding a repair from someone who put MSDs? It's ethics 101 - if you break it, you fix it.

New to the M3 world as I have had a 335xi coupe for almost 3 years. Have been seriously looking at M3's lately. Been reading over some threads on lease payments. I leased my last car and I think it is the way to go for me. Def like that idea of a new car every 3 years. Trying to find the page that has invoice pricing but can't find it anymore. Anyone know where I can find it? Thanks guys! Found the car that pretty much has everything I want. MSRP is $71, 205. Any thoughts on what a good price would be? Been seeing $1000 over invoice a lot. Thanks for the help!

MSDs are a good idea if you have the cash laying around. BMW will return them in the case of an accident, unless, for some reason, the GAP coverage isn't enough. (it always is.) It's not like putting money down.

The only time it's a pain is if you want to transfer the lease, most people don't want to kick down $7000 to take over a lease, even if the payment is sweet and even if they get it back at the end.

Def like that idea of a new car every 3 years. Trying to find the page that has invoice pricing but can't find it anymore. Anyone know where I can find it? Thanks guys! Found the car that pretty much has everything I want. MSRP is $71, 205. Any thoughts on what a good price would be? Been seeing $1000 over invoice a lot. BMW will return them in the case of an accident, unless, for some reason, the GAP coverage isn't enough. (it always is.) It's not like putting money down. The only time it's a pain is if you want to transfer the lease, most people don't want to kick down $7000 to take over a lease, even if the payment is sweet and even if they get it back at the end.
