Clutch noises
hello ladies and gets,
I posted here because i believe theres a lot more knowledgable members regarding clutches and such. Mods feel free to move if needed. Anywho, Im having this issue where my car in neutral will make wierd noises(like the engine is a diesel or has no oil in it) and recently i found out if i press the clutch in the sound COMPLETELY goes away. Is this normal? Sure doesnt sound like it. On another note my clutch pedal is soft and has very minimal grabbing room. Vehicle has been BABIED! with 3xxx miles Thanks |

Yes, it's normal from the first day i bought the car it makes that noise. I asked the dealer about it and it's something about the performance clutch that makes that noise.

This is the nature of the twin-disc clutch. It is perfectly normal. Your driveline noises that you may experience are normal as well, and are even stated in the owners manual.
Have no worries brotha.

It's normal, but when I told that to a dealer they replaced my tranny 6 mt with 8k on the clock. The sound is coming from throw out bearing. Don't worry about it.

I got the sound from day 1 as well. Worried me as I did Euro Delivery and was away from The Welt in Italy when I really started to pay attention to it. I was told it was normal. I then seem to remember it getting quieter and less noticable. However I took that car out this weekend and it seemed louder then I remembered. Came on here to re-read some of the posts and settle my nerves, seems almost everyone hears the sound.

i get the same sound too. when i am idling at the stoplight in neutral with the clutch pedal undepressed, it makes a little rattling sound as soon as i press the clutch and put in gear, the transmission goes silent. i asked a service guy bout this before and it seems to be normal.

I have M3 2007 6MT, stock. When I bought the car it had 34000 km(21000 miles) and all was perfectly correct and there was nothing noise from the clutch or transmission na matter the clutch was pressed or unpressed. Now after 6000 km (I realy babied the car) I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM as you have! And nobody cannot say to me it's normal ! Friend of me have the same M3 2007 6MT with 120000 km on it and it works like a Swiss watch! THER IS NO NOISE when the clutch is unpressed or pressed!!! |

It's normal guys.
Even the 335i has clutch noise. On the M3 it's the twin plate design slightly reverberating together. Press the clutch in, the sound is gone. Turn your car off with the clutch released, you will hear a distinct rattle. Now do it again with the clutch pressed in, the sound is gone.

Ok. The most of you guys have this same 'problem' from the start and it's ok but can somebody answer me on this:
When I bought the car there WAS NO ANY NOISE when the clutch was realased!! In the next 3 months I did cca. 6000 kms (3700 miles) and that NOISE starts to coming!!! I repeat friend of my have the same M3 2007 6MT with 120000 kms and he is killing the car allways and no problem at all !! Maybe it's normal but it just BOTHERS me! I'm sensitive on the things like this. I'm currently in negotiations with a Official BMW service in Germany to accept me warranty on it. BMW ///M Department can not afford such problems on the car of 100K €! |
