Shipping my new M3???

Just finished signing papers on a new 2010 AW M3. $74K sticker got it for $60K, which i think is a pretty good deal
Dependable Auto Shipping will ship it for $1400, from OR to GA, on an enclosed trailer. I talked to Intercity and he said he wouldnt be able to get to it in any reasonable time frame so he refered me to passport who quoted me $2200. My question is...Is Dependable Auto Shipping...Dependable? Any other thoughts...and no driving it here isnt do-able right now.

I had a so-so experience with DAS a couple years ago. They took FOREVER to pickup the car, but it did get to its destination in good shape.

I have seen "horror stories" with every carrier and just making sure before i give them the green light.

Option wise she's pretty loaded. Tech Package,Cold weather package, Premium Package, Silver Extended leather (I have never seen a silver leathered M3), DCT, 19" wheels, Sunroof (I dont care for the sunroof, but hey for 60K), enhanced sound, and Ipod/USB...$73,475 sticker

No pics yet, I'll wait till she's home

DAS damaged my car
Car came with chipped windshield and scratches on the bumper that were half assed touched up.
Make sure you get the insurance.
They paid for all the damages.

I'm shipping my car about as far across the continental US as it can go, from central CT to Los Angeles California.

I'll be using Passport, they are expensive but I want THE BEST. Still will cross my fingers for no dings scratches etc

I used Passport in '07 to ship my '06 Vette - a bit expensive but worth it to me. Make sure you request the top rack.

My understanding is that most, if not all, of these shippers are brokers. They post a price/offer onto an online database and the actual shipping company picks up the quote and the car.

You can find out the actual cost of the shipping by what you will be paying the driver. The amount you pay as a deposit to the shipping company is their cut or broker fee. For example, you go with ABC Shipping. They tell you it will be $1000 total for shipping and ask for $200 upfront and $800 in the form of cash, check or MO to the driver. That means that the price posted on the database was $800.

You can find some shipping companies that will let you know of this arrangement and ask for $150 as their fee and post whatever (reasonable) quote you'd like. They can guide you on a quote that will ensure your car getting picked up in 3-4 days.

At least this has been my experience when shopping around for transporting my car when it comes in.

AFAIK, DAS, Intercity, and Passport have in-house drivers and dedicated truck fleet... They don't sub out shipping to 3rd parties

I had my X5 shipped with American Auto Transport a couple of months ago. Was a similar route (OR->FL) and was a little bit cheaper if I do recall, so they can probably move it to GA for even less. They did a fine job IMO.

Would love to hear specifically why they worked out so well for you...

Did you feel particularly good about the driver? Did the car move at all on the trailer from load to unload? How thorough was the pre- and post-inspection?

I know this is an older thread, but for new readers...

I just shipped my M3 and motorcycle using Montway Auto Transport. Prices were significantly lower than other places I've called. From Central NJ to Irvine, CA:

Car alone on open trailer: $1000
Car with R6 bike on open trailer: $1400
Car with R6 bike on closed trailer: $1800

Yes, they were significantly less than other carriers who were $2500+, but I've used Montway previously and they did a fine job. This time, they were a little funny transporting my bike, but it's a used bike and they/me are insured.
