2012 GTR = Around the 'Ring in 7:20

http://jalopnik.com/5666310/2012-nis...-720-ring-time

Quote:
An overnight spec-drop from the Land of the Rising Sun confirms the 2012 Nissan GT-R is the Car of the Rising Power with a 45 horsepower bump, which is enough to drop the Nurbürgring time to a Corvette ZR1-confounding 7:20.

The new 2012 GT-R is now more than just slightly revised aerodynamics. According to NAGTROC, the 2012 model adds more power through added boost, larger exhaust piping, modified valve timing, and a few other tweaks.

The new GT-R now makes 530 hp at 6,400 RPM and peak torque of 450 lb-ft from 3,200-6,000 RPM. They've also attempted to preempt any jokes by mentioning there's an upgrade to the transmission programming as well.

Not surprisingly, they've extended the number of editions to six: Club Track (racing-only), EGOIST (super customized), Pure Edition, Black Edition, Premium Edition, and SpecV.

Magically, the 'Ring time dropped from 7:26.4 to 7:20, enough to best both the ZR1 and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

I wonder when this took place because I was at the Nissan shop at the Nurburgring yesterday and they didnt say anything about this. And all the different shops there at the Ring love to gloat about their lap times, so I wonder why no one said anything. They also had an older Spec-V R35 in their showroom instead of this new one.

And there was no way in hell that lap run was this weekend, there was fog over the whole course with 10ft of visibility yesterday and a sanctioned race on Saturday. Maybe it was thursday or friday...

For those that disbelieved the original 7:26.4 time this new one will be regarded as the same Nissan BS. I wonder will we see a repeat of Porsche getting their own example and stating that they didn't getting close to this time of 7:20 either.

popcorn time indeed.

Well, the GTR's Sportauto time was quite a bit slower than this.

Best regards,

My point exactly. Nissan's own time has been discussed at length here and on the 'M3 vs' section with two differing opinions, one side believing that though the time was incredible it was witnessed to be factual and the other saying that though the time did happen, the car is question wasn't the same as could be bought on the street. This latest time will only add fuel to the fire on this debate.

Frankly I think it's up to the individual to decide which is right and wrong either way Nissan have achieved what they set out to do, which was give the GTR as much media attention at possible since it's launch and reaffirm it's cult status which it had, in spades.

Exactly, that's why I was so eager to start this thread. I can't wait for the shitstorm that'll swallow up 6Speed and the like

What tire setup was used? Didn't they lie about the tire setup with the inaugural GTR times?

This is impressive for a car with no aesthetic appeal, racing lineage or history. Good job Nissan.

Hey, it's got all kinds of e-cred. The fact that Nissan has built two or three versions since the idiots at Gran Turismo can hack together a game to simulate it makes it even better.

Those wheels are just as ugly as the rest of the car now.

Yeah. Now if only Nissan could get a GT2 or ALMS entry then we could really get a useful discussion going.

Here's the thread at 6Speed. The OP is, of course, a GTR owner and had the balls to post it in the 996 Turbo / GT2 section:
