I also hope the price-performance ratio of the new M3 compares favorably with the C63..... yes, it's still a 3 series and BMW should know how "badge conscious" we US buyers are! We won't pay Porsche prices for an M3 just like we wouldn't pay BMW 7 series prices for a VW (Phaeton flop)

I think that Porsche prices in the US will also rise.....................( not only BMW, but all products from the EU)..........................it`s all about economics and a verry expensive €..............................

BMW definitely actively monitors these forums. We have Scott26 a BMW marketing employee in Germany who reads and post here. There are certainly more than just him and they read more forums than just this one.

That being said they don't really have to pay that much attention to what goes on here. This is a very small percentage of M3 buyers. Here we have the intersection of the fanatics and the computer savvy. Out of 100,000 M3 that will be sold there are like 300 posters or so here, way less than 1%. It is also totally naive to think that BMW would adjust pricing this late in the game (it has been decided long before we even saw early prototypes, guaranteed!) especially based on the "it's too expensive, I'm buying a Porsche" whinings of a few folks on m3post.com.

BMW does their own dedicated marketing and market research activities. Being able to read this stuff is more like entertainment for them. They have huge marketing budgets and can afford big studies, focus groups, polls, etc. This along with predictive marketing models is how prices are decided.

It is very important for BMW to know what fanatics think about them and about the M3 but the price will be what it will be and the car will almost assuredly sell over 100,000 units in its lifetime.

In the Netherlands the base price has risen from € 82.500 (E46 M3 ) to € 99.500 (E92 M3) stock that is..........................know what I mean??

Yanks can`t complain therefore IMHO with a rise off lets say $ 14.000...................M3 is allready f.cking cheap in the US................

Well, they did it on the m5. Check out the base msrp on the last m5 compare to the new m5.

Angry 175k USD IN HONG KONG!!!

i'm guessing every market will see a huge increase (already seen so in some places like UK and Austrailia!). i dont think the Canadian price is looking good either. i'm guessing its gonna start late 80s + option

looks like E46's will be my last ///M for a while... i might as well go for a Carrera S for that price!

who else is dropping the idea of getting the new ///M and go with something else?? there seems to be alot of choices in that range, especially with new GTR coming.
I put a 100k HKD deposit a year ago, and i am going to pull it back.
I remember it was 0.68m HKD (88K USD) in 04' when i finally picked a X5.
Now it is 1.37m HKD (175K USD) in 07' which is a double.

Worth to buy a softer steeling, brake, "unexpected civilized" new M3 with such an amount? Either S5 or 997S is my next consideration.

I thought these companies hedge against the dollar. I also think the price is over priced. Look at the e39 m5 and the e60 m5

US prices are not even out yet, and you guys are whinning about how expensive speculative prices are here. Don't you think we should wait to see what the MSRP will be here in the US before we jump top conclusions?

At this point in time, in the absence of any new meaningful information, the main premise of this forum is naturally pure speculation, and nothing more. And that's fine as long as people realize they are speculating.

$58,500 sounds about right. Plus Gas guzzler tax and a few option it will easily skyrocket to $64,000. Nav and some extra gizmos and we are looking at close to $70k..!

Nav or M-Drive is probably about $2.5k apiece, so close to $5k with those 2 options and you can easily see how things will add up. If this cars standard price is above $60k a fully loaded M3 will be over $70k. Even for an M3 thats too high.

I am getting increasingly uneasy about mags predicting base MSRP in the low 60s. They must have heard something--true or false...

2004 M5 / 2003 M5 = $81.2k/$64.2k = 1.265
2006 M3 $48.9k x 1.265 = $61.9k

Not that this is a novel calculation but with a few mags recently quoting over $60k I think the odds of a sub $60k base are decreasing. It is an important psychological barrier that I think BMW would be very smart to not exceed but the performance of the car will probably totally justify a low $60k base.

I'm thinking if they base price it at $59,xxx ... (just to be able to push that "under $60K" point) ... add destination and gas guzzler and it's at $61,xxx ....

I agree, but some of these options are such a necessity, such as EDC and M-Drive. I just cant imagine purchasing a M3 without either, at least EDC. Im sure there will be a bunch who will choose not to get leather, navi, metallic paint (AW fans).

Im gonna try to keep my options down to a minimum, DCT,EDC,Navi, leather, metallic paint

My guess is that the "minimum" of options you just listed will be pushing 10,000USD. Also, you didn't mention the 19" wheels, but considering you'd have to be blind to get the 18's, you can add another 2500. There's 72 to 74K right there.

While I've wanted an M3 since about the summer of 2000 when I drove my first M car, I think 72 to 74K is probably too much for this new M3. What a conundrum.

Come on Fifth, that sounds pretty loaded to me! You've gotta let go off Navi if you're trying to come under $70k.

I dont plan on keeping the stock wheels, only for winter use. Going either DPE or IForged.

At least is right! Good forged wheels will be at least $3.5-4k plus about $1.2 for tires. Of course, you can run the 18s for a while and defer that purchase for a while.

Not exactly true. Some mags are in fact quoting 60K base but some other mags are quoting "Price as Tested" at 62K which is closer to a 55K or 57K base....

I haven't seen any "price as tested" quotes (I might have simply missed this) although I agree that there is ambiguity around what they are including in their estimates.
