Akrapovic Exhaust & Passing State Inspections

Is this a problem for just California residents, how did you get around this on the Emissions Testing portion of the State Inspection, is it a problem in the other states and passing yearly state inspections once the vehicle is over 2 years old, guess I am looking at feedback from current Akrapovic Exhaust owners and your experiences.....I love the sound but if I take the mod plunge may have to go with BMW Performance Exhaust instead if this is going to be a major hassle.

myself and a neighbor are in the same boat. we both want the akra evo and realize we need another $1K for a tune, but we must pass inspection. we are both in galveston county, but the testing should be the same as harris county.

I guess you can try and take the chance and then if it fails, look for a friendly inspection shop, and it probably is doable, and money ussually can get almost anything done....it just means more premium to get it done.

6K is a bit pricey. I got mine for much less.

Do they have a tail pipe test or just a readiness test in texas?

no tail pipe test after about 1995 or 1996. everything after that is OBD-II and no CEL can be shown in dash.

The consensus is that it's easy enough to just swap to stock at registration time.

That would be my fallback plan, but I don't really want to remove and reinstall the exhaust every year.

Gotta pay to play, either in $ or in time. Looks like it will be your call as to which it will be.

The only way a "tune" will make it pass is that if the OBD readiness is changed with the o2 sensors off.
