Oil cap leak fixed

many people complained about oil seeping out from the oil cap. I had this problem and here is my fix.
Pull out the rubber gasket ring, wash it really really well. Clean the cap, the cam cover opening really really well. Reverse the rubber ring and put everything back carefully without any contamination. No more leak!

I have replaced my oil cap by the new type ...no more leaking !
This oil cap is firmer ....

He is referring to the rubber ring that is on the cap, remove it...flip it over and reinstall.

I just replaced it with a new cap... it was 12 bucks. No more leakage.

The first time I cleaned it, I only used a wet towel to wipe, leaking actually became worst. I searched the Internet and found out many people had bought the new version oil cap and still had some leak. I think the rubber gasket is too thin, any dirt trapped will cause a leak.
I washed everything again in a bucket of water, and wiped the cam cover clean. No leak so far.

Going to try doing that...

I have had the new cap since it came out, and it does leak occasionally. Wiping off the rubber ring seems to help.

When this topic has been brought up before, it's been hit or miss as to whether the newer cap really fixes it or not. I know there was a user who doubled up on gaskets to try and seal it better. Bottom line, don't count on the new cap to fix anything. I have the newest one and it still leaks.

How come I've had the car for five years now and haven't had this issue. I had the occasional weeping which I don't know was after an oil change when the dripping had occurred. It's is just puzzling that a lot of people have this issue seriously.

resurrecting this old thread and I didn't see anyone report back that had the issue. I'm dealing with this now on my E92 M3 with 80k. First went with the Amazon replica oil cap suggested in another thread and now OEM(FCP Euro) and still getting slight oil leakage. Really strange this happens.

Going to try this method and report back

Pics of your oil fill hole please. If the valve cover coating is wearing off around the fill hole, the cap - old or new - won't get a good seal and will leak.

Any suggested (easy) remedy for this other than removing and reciting the valve cover? I bought a new oil cap last year, but am still getting quite a bit of leakage (seems to be very very small droplets and it's worked it's way all the way down the engine bay). Super irritating as I am really keen on keeping my engine bay clean!

My current band-aid at the moment that is working is buying another oil seal like the one thats on the cap currently and doubling up. Its held back most of the oil...maybe a few drops here and there.

I will go ahead a replace the entire valve cover sometime next year, but that is what works currently.

Here is the reason (with picture) why its leaking...its because the coating has chipped off leaving an uneven surface for the oil seal to...seal.

This was discussed in another thread. The majority of oil cap leaks are because of the valve cover. I tried sanding down the painted lip and some have tried repainting the lip. But the solution is to replace the valve cover with a new one.

My valve cover had chipped paint on the sealing surface and was leaking pretty bad. I sanded the top sealing surface, leaving smooth bare metal, installed the e46 m3 oil cap and no more leak.

Found this thread helpful in fixing the leak from oil cap. Ended up smoothing out the rough surface on the lip with a screwdriver and cleaned the cap and spacer. Problem solved no more leaks
