Deposits and Mark Ups?
I spun by the dealer today to inquire about deposits being taken for the next M3. The guy had a weird look on his face as though to say this early? I guess no ones put down a deposit yet. Whats the deal with where you all live? Anyone put one down yet? I would gladly put a deposit down for one, however he clearly indicated that there would be a hefty mark up. I have owned CL-55's, SL-500/55's CLK-55's, and just purchased my S550 a few months back and was able to get them at MSRP. These were all purchased within the first month available to the public, and dealers wanted $$$$ over sticker. I have yet to buy a bimmer that was highly sought after for a mark up. However, I was able to purchase the 6 series at MSRP when they first came out. I choose not too.
Did anyone purchase the 2001 model M3's for sticker when they first came out? |

I placed a deposit on an 07 M3 coupe, but being I am getting it through Pentagaon Car Sales I will be paying a thousand or so under MSRP. But with your situation I would just contiue to shop around with other dealerships. With the car not being released for another year, I don't see why a dealership would not take your deposit money and not impose a markup. You can only assume they are expecting the next M3 to be a really hot item and are expecting to really screw over buyers when the car is released. Being your dropping money a year in advance the transaction is benefits both parties.
The Dealer A car that doesnt even exist is already sold with little to no work Option of investing the deposit you give them Buyer Assured car will be available to you upon release. Good luck |

Pentagon car sales is not a military/gov run company. It was started by a military guy and his wife stationed in Germany to give U.S. Military/DOD contractors who are stationed overseas (that is the mandotory, you have to meet these stipulation or they wont deal with you) the opportunity to purchase a new BMW/Mini/Saab minus taxes and under MSRP. Pentagon Cars Sales negoitates the price of the car and options with BMW beforehand and gives the customer that price plus a small markup for business expenses (when you go in to there office you don't negoitate, it is pretty much take it or leave it). The best part is no matter what BMW you want from a base 3 series to a fully loaded M6 they will get if for you below any price you can get it in the states. It is unlike a normal car dealership because that don't keep a large inventory of cars on hand, depending on the location they will have between 3-12 new cars available for inspection and test drive. So in most case your car is made to order (similar to burger king, you tell them the color and the options you want and a few weeks or a month later you have a car). But that also means if you want a brand new BMW you will probably not get it the same day you walk in. There sales associates are some of the best to deal with, no ride alongs on the test drive "take her on the autobahn see what she can do" (E46 M3 wow) and no pressure to buy. Here is the website you can check them out they are no the level. Ask anybody who has been station in Germany. http://www.pentagoncarsales.com/

I put my deposit down about a year ago. (July 2005)
We have 2 dealerships in town. One took a $1k deposit with no dealer mark-up. The other told me they were not taking deposits and to expect at least a $10k mark-up. So it is hard to say what dealerships will do and I have bought 4 BMWs new and 1 pre-certified (3 of the 5 being M's) between both these dealerships over the past 5 years. |

I put my deposit down about a year ago as well. I am currently number 2 on the list. This will be my first purchase from the dealer but they never mark up any cars and promised it to me for MSRP. I am sure it would be a different story if I was buying the car in CA though.

It really depends on the dealership. Crevier will mark-up the sh!+ out of a M car, but it's negotiable, I was told by one of the SAs there. Riverside also will mark-up the car. Steve Thomas in Camarillo? I don't know, but I seem to remember reading that they don't. Don't quote me, though.
The point is that you need to shop around. Talk to all the dealers. A longer drive to a dealer might net you some savings. Don't generalize one dealership's or SA's practice to all dealers/SAs.

If anyone around the new jersey area area wants one for list price (not a penny more) let me know as we do not charge over sticker on any cars where I work. Only thing required is a 1000 deposit.
