I have to wonder what they were thinking when they put the old 3.2 M3 engine in the new Z4 M Coupe. The N54 would seem perfectly suited to that car.

This is going to sound really stupid and I sure I am going to catch some flack for it but..... could it be possible that while BMW was openly developing a TURBO for the next generation MINI (in a 4 cylinder version) They were developing the 6 cylinder in secret? After reading the details on the MINI/PSA engine there are a lot of similarities, direct injection dual scroll small turbo (lag free) electric water pump, variable oil etc, Vlavetronic etc.. It seems to me that the engines are very similar, minus the fact one is a 4 and the other a 6 (twin turbo). I am attaching a link to anyone interested.

If anyone doubted the level of interest in the bi-turbo, we have almost 5,000 hits in less than eight hours. Amazing that Jason & Mark's server is keeping up with it. This is a dream come true -- almost, got to wait and see what we end up with here in NA.

The Mercedes 6.3l motor is a bored/stroked version of the Chrysler Hemi 6.1l.
Don't be fooled by the marketing and CEO's.......... this was NO merger Chrysler owns Mercedes. |

now that we know that the turbo is a parallel bi-turbo(twin if you will) set-up as opposed to a sequential set-up as was rumored, how does this fact impact upon the issue of turbo-lag? sequential turbos are touted to minimize lag given the rapid spool-up of the diminutive turbo that operates at low rpm(which seems quite plausible). twin turbos are also claimed to reduce lag compared to a single turbo since each turbo is smaller. question; if each turbine, albeit smaller, in a twin set-up only receives half of the engines exhaust why should spool-up be more rapid?

good luck with that (u will need bigger turbos for that, and those are more than $2000).. And competition still less expensive.. G35 supercharged or twin turbo charged will walk over M3...

You all should STOP complaining about the lag.. technology is out there and there gonna be NO NOTICABLE LAG.. VW 2.0 4 doesnt have lag, Subaru 2.5 doenst have lag and here u have a state of the art engine with small (aka no log) turbos - u will feel NO LAG.. But u WILL feel the g's when accelerating..

6.2 from AMG has NOTHING to do with HEMI or chrysler.. And yes, I said it corectly it's 6.2 not 6.3... read up some car magazines, then post rumors.. Quote:

To everyone complaining about 'Turbo Lag'... your car has Turbo Lag through the entire rev range. Think about that. Most of the complaints about turbo lag stem from cars with really small engines with turbo chargers to boost hp to a normal level. The off boost power is obviously going to be really anemic in that case. Im pretty confident that BMW has chosen a relatively high compression formula. The turbo chargers look fairly small. Plus the engine is large displacement. If it does have a bit of time off boost or building boost from idle (with i think there will be a bit of) it will be no less powerful then a 330 in that rev range, Then near peak torque when you reach maximum boost under 2k rpm. AWSOME. Good job BMW
