Exhaust Recommendation - and Yes i did my HW

Hi guys,

New here but an old timer when it comes to the ///M scene... I am picking up an 11 E92 M3 next week and I have been doing some research here on a recommended exhaust.

I'm picking up the car from Socal so my research has been focused on the RPI setup, particularly the GTM setup. I figured I can pick up the car and drop it off at the RPI shop in socal than head back to the bay area with my new beast.

I used to have a full setup Eisenmann race on my old E46 M3 and this thing was LOUD. but I LOVED IT!!! so i'm guessing i might not mind the loudness of the GTM too much!

Here are my questions on the RPI GTM setup:

1- How loud is thing thing? i have seen posts talking about how loud it is and how bad the drone is but is it really that bad? is it unbearable? i drive mostly with the music turned up. Would i still notice it?

2- How is the craftsmanship? does it rival the likes of Eisenmann and others? is the fit and finish at the highest quality?

3- Do you recommend powder coating the muffler? maybe not the tips but the rest of it? From the pictures i looked at, it seems to hang down pretty low and that polished finish makes it stick out much more than the stock setup.

4- Should i buy from RPI directly or do i get a better price going thru a reseller?

go to RPI directly...eloy is a good guy to deal with, no BS and knows his sh!t..

in terms of loundess, that's so subjective it's hard to answer, their shop m3 has a full gtm set up IIRC, so perhaps E will let you hear it..or someone local can meet up with you to hear it. If it is loud you could always consider their GTC set up which has been said to me more drone and volume friendly.

Craftmanship and gains I would say is very good, welds and bends are RPI exhausts are fully bolt on to the stock system, I've read of some install problems all seem to have been from install error rather than build quality

In terms of PC'ing the cans, again that's subjective as some do not like the SS can look...I would go for PC'd cans personally..

If you had a full eisenmann on your e46 I think the rpi will be ok for you. Like said just listen to it at the shop and take it for a cruise. If drone bothers you get the gtc system. Rpi puts a quality exhaust with great gains. I don't think you'll have a problem with this system

If you're looking for a Race exhaust, I'd also check out Gintani. They all drone like CRAZY and you're neighbors won't like it at all!!!! On start up, it'll shake the neighbors garage door across the street. I couldn't handle it.

i know this is not really the answer that should be posted but im going to go with either the akra evo or the Ericsson ive heard great things about both saves weight performs great sounds great how do these compare with the loudness of the eisenmann and the other exhausts talked about here?

What's up with loudness in the US? Don't you get pulled aside if your car is too loud?

If you want it loud, go with Gintani or Eissenman full-race. Or better, loos the muffler and have them weld a couple of straights directly onto the x-pipe ...

I would seriously reconsider the drone. It personally tilts me like nothing else and takes the fun out of driving the car. For a tracktool it's a different matter though.

Have you looked into valvetronic exhausts? So you can manage the volume by opening or closing exhaust valves.

The new 6 series have this. Aftermarket for the M3 valvetronics' been out for a while too now.
