Pikes Peak Drive

Pikes Peak Drive - September 22, 2013 (Weather Permitting)

The toll road will be open early (5:15am) to allow you to drive up to the summit as the sun comes up.

I did this back in June, and I had the whole road to myself, allowing the car to stretch it's legs a bit. Here's the youtube of part of the drive...

I know that's early, but it's well worth it. You can also get a $2 discount off the toll if you get the coupon from here...

If there is sufficient interest, we can do a group drive.

I'm still planning on heading up this Sunday. Weather looks good so far. I'll be at the gate around 0530 before heading up for any other takers wanting to take part in the Dawn Patrol.

It was a great drive. A bit on the dark side, and then ran into some fog near the top.

Unfortunately about a 1/4 mi from the top, I got the engine malfunction warning, but this time I had zero power. I managed to roll backwards off onto the shoulder, and then shut it down for a bit. After restarting, I at least got to the top, but then it did it again. I left it parked there for a bit while I took some pictures and had breakfast. For the drive back down, seemed like everything was okay except that the service light stayed on.

I'll make an appointment this week to have you take a look.

Looks like I timed that just right, as the Peak appears to have received some good amount of snow overnight.

Thanks. Please let us know what the engine malfunction was. I plan on a PP drive in a few days and I'm wondering if the high altitude would be an issue.

It shouldn't be an issue at all. He had a brake vacuum pressure malfunction so it cut power in case brake vacuum assist would be compromised. Enjoy the peak!
