Install an N54 6cylinder Engine in E92 M3 Body?

Anyone know if it's possible to install an N54 Twin Turbo Engine on an E92 M3 with DTC transmission?

I want to build a project car because there were a few things I clearly remember not liking about the V8, mainly being it's body weight, the inefficiency of the V8 engine and how expensive it is to tune compared to a 335IS.

REASON: I already had a 2011 M3 and just was not impressed with the V8 since all my friends with 335 N54 engines could blow my doors off with little more than just $1,500 in mods. There's a reason BMW got rid of that V8 in the M4.

Thanks

The N55 is a single turbo fyi. Why not get a N54 335i and just do an M3 body kit?

Think this is "NOT" the right place for your question, because 99% of the people on here adore their ///M "NA" V8 high rev engine !
Also be prepared man ! For some negative comments ,especially with the "inefficiency" of our S65 V8 engine ?!?!
Personal i think you smoked the wrong thing !

Good luck with that question here. I asked about dropping the s54 motor in and people got all bent out of shape. Be prepared for the "S65 is such a perfect and godly engine, why would you ever want to get rid of it?" bullshit.

With the right amount of money, and time, anything is possible. Personally, I'd drop an N54 rather than an N55. But have fun! I'm sure you can have adapter plates made to fit the DCT if needed. Good Luck! Should be an interesting thread/build.

you need to sell your car. the reason for the V8 is far beyond being able to tune it. its not for you though. i understand.

I already had both cars at one point in time.. My main reason for doing this is to get the best of both worlds, which you can't get with a 335I body, it's best to start off with an M3 body with all the toys already there.

People need to just respect individuality.. If I wanted to put a moped engine in there, it's my money and my choice, never could get the mindset of those who ridicule ones choice and freedom.

Look for a 1M..it would be cheaper

Also..the 335is came with a n54, not a n55

Why not supercharge the v8? That would also be cheaper, or buy gintani's new TT setup? If you haven't driven a supercharged s65, do so, you will change your mind about the n54 swap. I had a stg2 fbo n54 335, the m3 is literally a upgrade in everyway.

You can put all the M3 stuff onto a 335i body. Including the OEM wide front/rear fenders and all the suspension components.

That is exactly what Creaminz did with his 335i.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=500419

It is an essentially an M3 with a N54 engine.

It's great that it can be done, but don't you think all that body work will be significantly more expensive than to simply do an engine transplant?

Not even remotely. Think of all the electronics and ECU. If you want an N54 that bad, sell the M3, buy a 335i, throw body and suspension. Or just get a new M3/4.

Good question. If you do this, start with the 335is and DCT. The DCT receives network traffic from the ECU. If you use a standard 335 ECU, then I don't think it will have the network messages needed by the DCT. But the 335is ECU would. Maybe the newer programming for the 335 ECU has these messages, in which case this shouldn't be too much trouble.

You think the N54 motor is better? What do you think happens when you throw moderate boost at the M3 motor? Let me show you what a boosted S65 does against a FBO n54 335i running e85 and over 20psi:

And the boosted M3 is bulletproof. No issues whatsoever. Not one CEL, code, or hiccup. Just pure driving bliss.

Now think of all the headaches you will have by trying to install and get running a far inferior n54 motor that you can buy for $2K from a junkyard (my buddy Terry Burger did it).

Maybe that's your motivation. Buy an n54 for $2K and sell your S65 for $25K. Now this thread is starting to make sense.

Yes it is. The suspension bits are different, but the chassis is the same.

If you did a LSD, front and rear suspension arms, coilovers and a steering rack swap, you'd be hard pressed to find someone that could tell the difference between the two cars sans the engine.

Agreed. People should also avoid passive aggressive comments that they KNOW are insulting to others. Seriously. The M3 engine inefficient? You use that word, but you don't know what it means.
