Challenge Street Xpipe paired with Stock Mufflers?
Anyone have Challenge Street Xpipe paired with Stock Mufflers?
Specifically in CA? I did search thank you very much http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=498492 http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8904591 http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8608443 And don't tell me I should go catless... I have a vert, top down you smell everything Also, I don't plan on doing a tune (not yet at least) so a Challenge Sport or Gintani with HFC are out since they cause a CEL. I want to do a rear one day.... but I personally like the stock exhaust sound, just wish it was a little louder in the lower RPMs. But what I'm after more is increased power. I know catless or HFC will provide more power... but read what I said above. My main concern though: This is even worth the $1100? I know people who do Street when combined with a Gintani Race or another loud exhaust in order to make their exhaust not much louder.. I can't find clips of the Challenge street with stock Any help is appreciated

except i don't have any sound clips ((
if you find anything please do post! a street with stock means you dont need a flash! get some extra sound + power.

botht eh sosi and challenge street x pipe have secondaries deleted, primaries intact...so I would think it would be a "similar" sound....perhaps...there is a vid of an e92 sosi x pipe + stock exhaust by member rockd
both will require cutting the oem pipes to get the aftermarket x pipe to bolt-on...

This is the soSI one, and i do like it, but i'm not a fan of cutting the OEM exhaust so that's why i've decided against it.

I have to talked to rockd RE: going back to stock pipes after cutting the oem's to get the sosi (or challenge street) installed...he replied with: "It's very easy to revert back to stock - either use two 2.5" lap joint clamps or have the shop weld the stock x-pipe back on. Either choice is simple and relatively cheap (clamps are about $8 each and welding should be about $40 max)."

Agreed.
Its really unfortunate that you have to cut stuff on these. {being x pipes} It does seem that the X pipe itself in the pic may be installed with out the other 2 pipes connecting that need a cut. I am just not sure if it will line up exactly and just bolt on since they provide the other connecting pipes that force a cut. If it does line up and just bolt on -this may be the way to go for many folks. has anyone tried this?

Due to the design of the stock exhaust - it's required on the Challenge Street systems.

afaik: with the challenge street or sosi, once you cut the oem pipes, both aftermarket xpipes just slip on and are clamped in.
to go back to stock, you can either clamp or weld the oem pipes back on....

Thanks I like to do things step by step But my main concern is having drone; a lot of catbacks don't have drone, or if they do it's minimal. However, once paired to with an Xpipe, most seem to create quite a lot of drone. I rather my system be quiet and have extra power than to be loud and have even more power. I'm not the type that wants my exhaust heard a mile away unless I'm going WOT lol

Have you thought about pairing the Challenge Street with the BMW M Performance?
I'm thinking this route as the M Performance is raspy but quite subtle. Thinking a mild x-pipe like the Street would keep things pretty civil-aggressive. |

I've decided I'll get a Xpipe with HFC and keep the stock muffler
This will increase the power (which is my main desire), add sound without going too crazy Plus a tune to get rid of the CEL. I'll be able to maximize power and minimize cost. a rear muffler can cost an additional $2000-4000

Is this because its a pipe that's used for multiple cars? Or is it because they have an exhaust rear that usually gets paired with it that fits - this doesn't matter if its the front end that needs to be cut... If they made it for the M3, why wouldn't they just make it so it fits?

The Challenge systems have 3 different designs to suit your needs. Sport and Race are bolt-on systems, the Street is a Cut/Clamp design: Hopefully, this explains things a bit.

I'd look seriously at the Challenge Street paired with the Remus Sport. Not too loud. No smell, no CEL, nearly the same money (if you stay in the Challenge family x-pipes), and as an added bonus you'll loose that suitcase of an OEM muffler that hangs down from the back... |
