Vredestein Vorti..thinking of trying a set

My Invos are gone...well almost. I told myself when the front finally were gone I would move on. I found them to be an ok tire but want to try something different.

I was hoping that Mich would release a 285/30/19 in the PSS series but it hasn't happened and I need new tires.

So I want to either try the Vorti's in a 255/285 setup like I currently run, or try the Mich PSS in the 275/295 setup on the OEM ZCP wheels.

The Vortis can be had for a very good price. From some of the reviews I read in England with this tire they thought it was better than the older Sessanta's. Vredestein rates them as a higher tire and the Sessantas got good reveiws. I didn't get them because they didn't have them in a 285/30/19, the Vortis do come in that size.

So what do you think?

Dave

I remember you from the Roadfly days and it seems like we were having this same debate over the PS2, S03, F1GSD3 back in 04. Dave01M3 Dave04M3 lol...

The conventional wisdom is go with what is known to be good from objective tests and subjective reviews, the PSS.

I don't see the point in trying the Vredestien latest tires when you have PSS for mixed street performance driving and Conti DW for good ride/good wet, the RS3/AD08/RE11A for HPDE use. It took Vredestein a while to match the performance of the original PS2 with the Sessanta. I doubt they've come up with a PSS killer with their newest tire just yet.

Since tires are the only part of the car that touch the road, I say always get the best money can buy. The uniformity standards and quality of Michelin puts them at the top of the heap for me for performance street driving. I run PS2's for normal driving and PSS's when I want some more grip. thinking about replacing PS2's with Conti DW's for my street wheels since the PS2's are discontinued and the PSS XL sidewall is a little rough for the broken norcal pavement.

I know you've probably thought about this but to digress to another topic, you're running 285/30's which I would never do; shorter diameter than stock throws off speedo and records more miles. I really can't think of a reason to do it when bump compliance is already so marginal with 19's and a 35 profile tire to begin with. (Crappy Cali roads)

I love the 285/30/19s...sticking with them. The amount of difference between a 285/30/19 vs. a 265/35/19 is negligible to me. Hate the look of 35 series tires back there. I think the 285/30/19 is a perfect fit actually for the ZCP 10" wheel. As far as bump compliance a non issue for me.

Thats why I may even going with a 275/30/19 front and 295/30/19 rear Mich PSS. Not that much different in price..plus I could always go to a wider wheel sometime down the line.

You know you're going to get 20 responses for PSS, because on this forum, it's the only tire worthy of this car.

Coming from INVO's the Vred's should be quite capable. They should also last WAY LONGER than PS2's. not sure about the PSS yet.
I tried to be the first here to try them, but they couldn't get them in time for me.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I expected the responses for the Mich PSS, nothing against them. If they had them in the 285/30/19s I would get them..they don't so I need to look elsewhere.

I found them (Vortis) locally and they could have them in under a week. I probably am down to 4/32s on the rears and 5/32s on the fronts. So I am not in a hurry, I will probably get these and report.

BTW, the Invos weren't that bad. They actually had pretty good grip but not as precise as the PS2s. I was on my second set of rears and first on the fronts. I definitely wanted something different and think the Vortis could be quite good.

I'm in for a good Vorti review! I'm pleased with my Sessantas, and will likely try Vortis on my next round of rubber.

Can't speak for Vortis, but as for Vreds ...

I went with Vreds - wintrac xtreme - for Minnesota winters ... last winter! I'm still running them here in San Francisco (all summer!) and they probably will last a bunch longer.

Anyway, point is, Vreds are a damn good tire.

Has anyone tried the vorti yet? Thinking about getting these in the oem gts sizes and it doesn't look like pss in 285/30/19 is happening any time soon.

The Diameter for 285/30/19 is 25.73"
OEM 265/35/19 is 26.30"

Given the fact that BWM recomends 235/40/18 for winter tires all around (which are 25.40"), 285/30/19 doesn't seem so bad - only 2.2% difference.

Many people are running 285/35/18 which are 25.85"
