The Al and CF plates for our cars are the same price, but I don't get it because every other application has CF double the price of Al. I agree the R&D cost should be the same roughly, but really how much R&D does it take to make a 1 sq. foot plate that fits around the hub and is a few mm from the rotor? Not a lot. I'd be glad to pay $100-200 for a set of backing plates but $400+ for aluminum ones is ridiculous.

I think the problem is lack of demand. If you are only selling a dozen or 2, the margins have to be much higher per set otherwise it's just not worth the trouble. Not too many people track their E9x M3's and only small fraction of those that do are looking into brake ducting.
