Music of the Future...problem!!!!

Ok so Ive been thinking about this alot as my love for 70's-80's music has evolved....What are people in my generation going to listen to when we are our parents age? I love all these bands and musicians but my generation has no one that comes close to them. What are we going to do sit on our porches in our rocking chairs listening to Nickleback and Maroon 5? lol:sad0147: Its sad how all the great musicians came out before I was born

Just because what is on the radio and so called "Hot" by the record labels does not mean it is the truth or what will be remembered.

Many great bands in the past got no recognition during their time and they didn't sell millions of records. Yet they are regarded as greats.

I listen to a great deal of bands you wouldn't know most likely, some you would since they are starting to get a bit big. There are a ton of good bands out there that can easily be remembered.

Also i bet there were people in the 70's and 80's thinking their current music sucked.

not all music sucks only mainstream crap does because most of them are in it for the money only, very few of them are in it for the passion of the music. Thats why I like to listen to underground rock bands. There true to what they do, they have crappy labels make no money and only play music because they love it and have passion behind everything they do.

Well not to the extreme he was saying.

But bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails...although they are big they are now switching away from labels and showign artist you can make money and such while not selling out and being broke while labels get all the money.

I'm guessing I'm in a minority here, but there's quite a bit of good country music, and plenty of up and comming artists.

I also like mainstream music, but I don't see any "greats" on the horizon - no Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, etc etc. Remember though, the classic stations have decades to pull from - plenty of one-hit wonders.

As for R&B / HipHop / Rap - I just don't see the staying power in anything out there. I've been listening to this stuff for 20 years now (yes, I was a 12 yr old hiphop cracker gangsta wannabe from the 'burbs), and some of the older stuff is great - 2 live crew, Paris, MC Breed and DFC, EazyE, NWA, Ice-Cube, etc. Now it all sounds the same, like mass-produced music with a catchy front man. 2 records and they're done.

I agree. IMO, the last era of music that will be remembered in the future is Grunge. At the time it was almost laughed upon. Look now, Nirvana and AIC for instance, are looked at as legandary bands. Artist's today all have some influence from them among the original legends.

And Nickelback nor Maroon 5 will be looked at too much. They're not memorable.
